Might like to bid on this card but it seems almost too nice. Anybody have any knowledge of this seller?

definately a card I woud want to hold in my hands. Upper right corner looks like it may be touched up, but without being able to actually see the card, it's tough to say.

Crease near the top running from Mathewson's cap to the top border, just to the left of the "G". Assuming no trimming or alterations, I'd grade it Vg-Ex.

But if it were lower I wouldn't be concerned: 233 positives in the last year with no negatives. Seems like a trustworthy seller and he has guaranteed it authentic and un-trimmed. Ask him if he guarantees "unaltered" (no re-coloring).

they are absolutely square--I don't like that. Also, can't find
"card coillectors corner" in ben's neg-neutral feedback guide.

I mention this because it's important and seriously impacts slabbing and market value. Regardless of appearance...

NO card can be higher than a technical "vg-ex" if it has a surface wrinkle of any kind, or a crease.

If you ever win an "EX" or better card in an auction, and it has a surface wrinkle, you are completely within your rights to demand a refund.

Neutral feedback from buyer "BYOB" on 6/10/2002 to this seller:

"SO MANY CREASES, I THOUGHT IT WAS A RECENT PICTURE OF JOE NAMATH. THANKS"

That nice gold border had me dazzled in the headlights. They wouldn't, like, alter the color, would they? (<-joke) I am awaiting response from the seller on that issue. Thanks for the education; you guys are Awesome!

under SGC's description of a 60 EX, they allow "one VERY slight surface or "spider" crease may exist on one side of the card". So there description it is allowable.

I recently just sold a SGC 60 (EX) Johnny Sain 1951 Topps Blue Back on ebay. The card was mint apart from having a very slight wrinkle on the front, so according to SGC, EX cards can have slight wrinkles. I never really agreed with the idea that an EX card can NEVER have a wrinkle on it. Give me a card with a slight wrinkle on it but is otherwise perfect over a severely OC or card with normal EX corner wear.

IMO, a card with a wrinkle is Vg/Ex at best. While SGC is my grader of choice, I disagree with them on this.

Take care all,

Mike

Explain this one. The following card is in an SGC50 holder because of a slight surface wrinkle on the back that you can only see if you hold the card up to the light at an angle (I scanned the card through the SGC holder).

I happen to agree with SGC when it comes to cards I own . Seriously, I have an N174 Gypsy Queen (rare card, BTW) that would be ex-mt but for a tiny paper wrinkle on the back. SGC graded it a 60. Oddly enough, I also had a 1969 basketball card that had a similar problem and drew a 50. I think a card with a very slight wrinkle on the back can be ex, but I'd be plenty ticked if a seller sold it as ex raw without disclosing the existence of the wrinkle.
