Default Hi from a newish member. How does buy/sell/trade work on these forums?

Hi, I'm Josh

I've been hanging around the post-war forums for a while, and I've done b/s/t on other forums, but never this one. The other forums I used maintain feedback for the members, but I don't see that here.

What is the etiquette for trades here? How do I identify someone trustworthy for a high end trade? What's the best way to document a b/s/t here?

Thanks.

Welcome! As you make successful deals, put a note at the bottom of your signature listing people you have made successful deals with, keep adding them to the list. Also important to establish your own credibility. Have to tell you bad guys don't seem to last long here, they get run out of Dodge pretty quickly. As well as villified. It's a very good community.

Regards, Grant

Funny, you don't look "Newish" :-p

To answer your question, if you want to sell something, post it! Members are vetted here by the owner Leon and he has contact information for them, so if things go ugly, you at least have some sort of recourse. But, it IS "caveat emptor" so act accordingly.

As far as trades go,make a post and then work out the details with the other party and you can always make a post about how good a seller/buyer/trader person XYZ is.

If you have any questions, you can always search the potential other party's old posts and find their buy/sell history and contact who they made a deal with via PM.

I have made 4 or 5 deals on here over the past 6 months and I can say that the folks here are generally very cool and easy to work with. If there is gonna be a delay with payment or shipping, keep them in the loop and they are understanding!

hope this helps!

This is all true but rats do get in under the door sometimes so it is always on each member to protect themselves, caveat emptor. When trading look at folks number of posts, time on the forum, and look at their individual posts.....ask them for references if they haven't been here long. If they give you flack for asking, PM me or another moderator...and they won't anymore or they won't be here.
I, and the other mods, know quite a few folks and it is ALWAYS good to PM me/them if you have any reservations about a member. Overall, I/we have to get involved in less than 1 deal a month, not bad for what goes on over there. It is a safe place overall but you still need to be careful. I have personally done a ton of deals over there and know the BST is the busiest part of the board.

I have completed many, many successful buys over the years from the BST here. On one transaction, during the negotiation process, the images for the item (a multi card grouping) were changed by the seller, thus changing the items included in the grouping. The transaction was ultimately successfully completed. Since that transaction, I now use the print screen option from the point where I first express interest to the seller for their item....probably will never (ever) have another issue like this again, but you just never know.
