I was at the Hall of Fame for some meetings Sunday-Tuesday of this week and they told me he is the first sitting President to make a visit to the Hall. I would have guessed it had happened before now, but it's interesting trivia.

They've said first since Martin Van Buren, but he lived across the state and maybe was out of office....

Correct - several came after leaving office and some, including Bush 43, came when running for election. But no others came while in office.

Speech over. At opening he claimed he was there to scout it out of another Chicago legend, Frank Thomas. Also said Andre Dawkins in crowd. And said wife had retired those "Mom jeans" he wore in that lampooned photo when he threw out a first pitch...

Some less than charitable person (me) would say the reason nobody in office came is because they are too busy. But that's just me.

OK, I guess I'm just having one of those days when everything is eluding me and/or I'm a little bit grumpy, but how did Martin van Buren, who died in 1862, ever visit the Baseball Hall of Fame, whose museum was constructed in 1939?

His spirit walked the earth for many years after his death.

Here's a photo I took of President Obama at the Hall today. Martin Van Buren was the last sitting president to visit the village of Cooperstown (in 1839).

Not saying I disagree with this sentiment in general, but this pres has taken about 1/5 the vacation days as his predecessor.

Some less than charitable person (me) would say this country would be a lot better off if he (Bush) along with Cheney had taken even more time off. Like 8 years.

And yes Leon, I think you should kill this and a few other posts to keep in line with the no politics policy of this forum.

I was sort of waiting and seeing where this thread was going to go. There really is a strict no politics policy on the board . So that being said I am going to ask for no more political posts in this thread or it might be locked. Thanks ya'll ....

Ps...AustinMike and EvilKing your real full names need to be in your posts or you can edit your comments, nothing personal.....thanks
