Default D311s arrived today

I am pumped about these cards. I think leon thought they came from the "Trucker Boy Find." Thanks Richard for the nice cards.

Most of the ones that came from that find had some staining in the middle on their backs. They were sold to a west coast collector who recently downsized his collection through a major auction house. Except for the recent Melchoir purchase and the one with the stamp on the back, you can see the staining in my other examples.....which were from that find. The Byram had the least staining of the ones I kept.

I finally got a Cobb and I know it is trimmed and not in the best shape but hey it is what I can afford being fresh out of college and I love it.

Good job, right out of college, in the 1980's, couldn't afford anything.

Thanks Jason and Neal for the comments. I really like the D311 Pacific Coast Biscuit cards and they are really hard to find these days. Some of the ones I bought are considered "set toughies." I don't know if I'll get this set completed but this group sure helps.

Thanks to Phil Garry for this one! It's one I'd been looking to pick up for some time, and oddly enough, it has quickly become my 2 year old son's favorite card (lol I guess he has good taste).

Thanks Phil, I was happy to finally find one. I would've been perfectly fine with either of the Double Plays as well. Damn, all these pre-war cards/premiums/pins/and other various rookie items. The only good thing about post-war was that most of a collection would be somewhere near standard size. My collection is just all over the place now right now. Storage and display is getting kinda interesting at this point. But I wouldn't give any of it up for the world.

Thanks for the comments.

They were advertised as 1909-1910 but I'll have to do some research to pinpoint based on the players present.

Jason:

Based on my research, 1909 for the one on the left and 1910 for the one on the right both look correct.

Those Pirate postcards are fabulous - real photos beat the hell outta lithos.

I picked up a RPPC action photo of a Bloomer girl batting - needed this to accompany an article I finished up a while back. Also picked up a 7-ticket book of 1909 Gunther Park (Chicago) tickets. Finally, a John B. Stetson paperweight...sorry, just adding a little color to the post.

Here's a great addition to my postcard collection, a high grade 1908 Detroit Free Press postcard of Ed Killian. Picked this one up from Jeff P. (Bicem), a fantastic transaction indeed!

Jeff,

I know Killian's deceased, but those eyes are scary. It's almost a Pre-Karloff look.

You are absolutely correct. The only issue is I am allergic to most cards with creases in the head area. It seems almost every single freaking type 2, Red Cobby, has a moderate to severe crease in his head area. I think there are about 4 on the bay right this minute with that characteristic. I guess someone just wanted to crease the top part of all of those Cobbys?

yeah those cards are do fragile I think just pinching them between two fingers would cause creasing. my chases are the same way.

Default Just got these

Hello everyone, I just picked up these after almost 9yrs of not collecting.. I haven't got to see them yet as I'm traveling, but they looked nice from the scans. The backs are pretty clean as well, Clarke has a little fading, and Rube has just a tiny bit of paper loss.
A little background on me, I've been lurking long before I even signed up, I was big into T206s in from 99 to 2002 even had 25% of the set all PSA graded and all 5 - 7's other than O'hara st. louis in a 3. I had all 4 Cobbs in 6 (wish I still had them..) anyway I ended up selling everything to buy a house and what a waist that was! Not sure if you know the Vegas market but I ended up losing 70% of the value of my house. When I sold it, it actually sold for less money than when it was originally built 10 years ago by almost 15k.
So I've just now started to get back into the T206s, but this time I'm doing it a little different, (for now) I'm only going to do the HOF's (minus 2 of course) and will be buying the card and not the #grade on the slab. I should be around a little more, thanks for listening to my little story. Happy collecting..
