I think this photo card is suggested to be of Tris Speaker?

Any verification?

That's the same photo depicted on the 1915 Susini (Cuban) issue. I bought one from Ryan Christoff at the National two years ago and I believe it's universally regarded to be Speaker, yes.

At least I hope it is.

Majority opinion has said it's Speaker, and I don't recall anyone adamantly arguing otherwise. I've looked at the pic close up, and it does resemble Speaker.

David is this card from the same company with the infamous Sisler card that always shows up on ebay out of London?

Nope - the Speaker card is from R. & J. Hill, issued 1934.

The "Sisler" card is from the Sports Records series issued by Boguslavsky in 1925

One sold recently on Ebay

Less than a month ago there was a post on the card pictured above.

There are 2 different backs (not including the Susini).

....

According to the new version of the World Tobacco Issues Index there are three back varietes in the R & J HILL issues:

A. titled "sports", numbered on front and back
B. titled "sports series", numbered on front only
C. without series title, numbered on front only

B & C are scarcer than A.

I wonder if this photo was taken during the World Tour of 1914. That jersey looks like the Chicago jersey that they wore. Can you tell if there is a flag on his sleave? Speaker and Crawford were on the Sox team and both batted lefthanded. I'll try and find out if any other lefthanders for Chicago played in London.

Isn't that Josh Gibson?

In all seriousness, it is definitely Speaker and the image is from the World Tour as previously mentioned. He is indeed wearing the Chicago jersey with the flag on the sleeve.

If you look closely at the field in the background you will see that the field actually appears to be a cricket field.

Plus, only a Londoner would chalk right through the batter's box like that!

Frank,

That's been my guess, but it's just a guess. I'm certain about Speaker. Not certain about that one.

It's NOT Hornsby, though. It's usually Hornsby when someone has it for sale.

Have we ruled out Josh Gibson?

The T3 Murray is a similar pose as above, but its a drawing. Here is the best pic I could find of Murray. Red sure was a stocky guy and the bat is a log

Frank, just looked at the other thread and saw your cards. Are those postcards? The bottom one maybe from the World Series.

They are ca.1915 Susini cards (N230-3 in the ACC) from Cuba. They are found B&W or with a color tint like the ones I have.

The Speaker is the same picture as the card at top of the post, but Im not sure if the other 2 Susini cards are in the RJ Hill set.

PS. In the N230-3 the "N" in the ACC is for "Central and South American Tobacco" cards, not 19th Century like today. So I call it NC230-3.
