Default Wife got a new job in Detroit. Casino help.

I've never been there (other than the airport). I work in the casino industry, and I know the value of keeping your own tips versus pooling them. Are there any casino workers on here? Or does anyone on here know if there is a casino that keeps their own? Also suggestions on nicer areas to live?

Any help or suggestions with living in the area would be great. Also, I will still be cheering for my MN sports teams. Is there a bar I can watch the games at?

Sorry for your loss. I would not recommend any bar and grill called Red Wing Ralph's

I'm not much of a hockey guy, so I doubt I would end up there.

Basketball first, and then football. I played basketball trough college, so I rarely had time for hockey.

Not a casino worker, just a simple poker player, but if you're going to be working downtown you might look at Grosse Pointe - very short commute. Ann Arbor is about a 45 minute commute with no traffic, but it has everything. Novi, Northville, Birmingham, Rochester Hills are all great suburbs as well. Grosse Pointe is the "old" money.

Lots of rich, cool people are actually moving into the city, downtown. So the question is, how cool are you? If you're cool, you might try Ferndale as well. That's where the hipsters live.

Detroit is actually doing very well compared to the 80's when I was going to school downtown. Most people who visit these days are pleasantly surprised. It's just the damn weather that sucks.

I have a list of the eligible cities we can live. They are Detroit and neighboring suburbs, but not as far out as I would like. A friend of mine that loves in Allen Park told me some info and places that are absolute no’s like Inkster, Lincoln Park and a couple others. My wife’s boss lives in Inkster on Cherry Lane, and the houses look very nice. A lot to take in considering we have to sell our place and have a place there in 6 weeks.
