Default T206 Lajoies

Anyone have any thoughts/opinions on why Nap Lajoie T206s are going for such crazy prices these days?

I was stunned to see the portrait go that high.

Maybe it's bc Cobb, Young, Wajo, and Matty have gotten so expensive lately, and Nap is the next biggest-name HOFer, so maybe we are seeing his value go up too. I have noticed many of the Cubs - Tinker, Evers and Brown (not Chance so much), seem to have gone up a good amount this year as well. I don't follow so much Speaker, E Collins or Keeler, but I bet they have had an uptick too. In other words, as the big 4 get more expensive, people start buying the next tier down, and I, personally, think Lajoie is leading that next tier.

I always thought Lajoie and E Collins were undervalued from this set.

The prices in the above eBay links didn't make me flinch at all. Seem reasonable for Lajoie. His T206 cards have always commanded strong prices, as he is right at the second tier level that Ryan mentioned.

I thought the prices were a bit high given the condition. The Tolstoi back might have been key on one of them.

I'm pretty sure that one was a Tolstoi.

The beat up raw portrait for $300, though, is definitely an eye opener.

I misread the back description and changed my Sovereign comment to Tolstoi right before you posted. I am sure certain players are scarce with certain backs, was my thinking...and there are some serious Lajoie collectors out there too.
