Default Just Suppose . . .

Posted By: Bruce Babcock

Just suppose that the T206 Wagner was not the rarity it is.

Suppose that there were four T206 Wagners, just as there are four T206 Cobbs, and printed in the same numbers.

Suppose there is a blue (instead of green) portrait, a yellow (instead of red) portrait, a "bat on shoulder" and a "bat off shoulder."

How would the prices compare to the four Cobbs?

And here's another question. How many sets, tobacco or otherwise, contain both Cobb and Wagner? It's interesting that two of the biggest sets of the tobacco era do not contain both players. T205 has no Wagner and T207 has neither player.

Here are the E95 cards of both, to get the ball rolling.

Not only in the same set but these two would be found together on the same candy box.

My opinion,Cobb missed out on the "rare card"except for the Cobb back.If it were Cobb,I think it would go higher than Wagner. After all,he garnered the most induction votes of anyone in the HOF.

Though the T206 probably adds an intangible mystique to all Wagner cards, I think they would probably be close - maybe Wagners would be just a notch under Cobb values - anyway. Setting aside pitchers, Cobb and Wagner were the best of their era.
