Is there ink on Munson's nose? Is it strange that all the writing is on the same angle?

Brock,

Based on what you just said, my thoughts would be if one is fake, then why trust the rest?

Someone drew a pigs nose on Thurmans face. And now that you say something baout it, it is kinda strange that their all at the same angle.

Here's a photo of the Mantle. The first name looks like Mandy.

Whether the others are bad or not, they weren't done by the same guy who did the Mantle.
That was obviously done by a kid--probably "Dave," and he wasn't trying to fool anyone.

Actually, the others look good.

I'm not an autograph expert by any means but something doesn't seem right with them. Here are examples of the Medich and Nettles signatures which both seem different from the ones in the book.

http://cgi.ebay.com/GRAIG-NETTLES-1984-mothers-cookies-Autograph-card_W0QQitemZ250344148399QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ200 81217?IMSfp=TL081217134002r1037

http://cgi.ebay.com/GEORGE-MEDICH-autograph-1980-TOPPS-signed-card-RANGERS_W0QQitemZ120344009372QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH _DefaultDomain_0?hash=item120344009372&_trksid=p32 86.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A13|39%3A1|240%3A13 18

Medich doesn't sign a full "George" and the "Best Wishes" on Nettles' signature is much tighter in the eBay example than in the one at the local auction.

Agree with David...

The Mantle is so ridiculously bad, that I would not classify it with the others. Whoever forged the Mantle had nothing to do with the others. If they are fake, it was a much more skilled forger.

I think there's a decent chance that they're ok. Most fake autos aren't personalized (the absurd childish Mantle not withstanding...)

Thansk for the help.

I decided not to go to the auction later. I know the Thurman Munson looks good but i just dont trust them, because like the one poster said the Nettles and Medich dont look right, and i have to drive an hour to get to the auction. Thanks again for the help.

The Nettles and the Medich are fine.
Nobody's gonna waste their time forging two five buck autographs.

The Munson's worth $800 easy.
You might have gotten a deal.

I'm no autograph expert, but know that with group signed items, it's important to take a good hard look at the common signatures. Forgers spend their time trying to perfect Joe DiMaggio and Derek Jeter, not Mike Caldwell and Sixto Lescano. If the Caldwell and Lescano look good on a team signed ball, that's a positive sign about overall item.

Brock,
Im glad you went to get it. I think you would have kicked yourself for years if you had let it go. Thats a great pickup you should be very happy if you picked it up "cheap" as you said! A Great early christmas present! Enjoy!
