Default Satchel Paige SGC 45 Closing Tonight

Getting a lot of interest. $9200 with about three hours left. I'll predict a close of $12,200. Sharp looking card.

A very nice and rare card but for me the tilt/centering doesn't justify the price. I have been following the auction but if I'm going to spend 10k+ it has to be centered better.

$9730 for the satchel. That's a really good buy on one in that condition, congrats!

That condition?? Sounds like the price is right CONSIDERING the condition. Some people aren't blinded by the flip.

A psa 3.5 ended late last year at 9,500. It had a similar tilt but didn't look quite as drastic. Considering how much some high end cards have went up in the last 6 months I wouldn't say it was a bad buy. But it's not like someone stole it either. I think the price was about right.

Very scarce card and the centering and tilt actually don't bother me on this one.

Was going to say . . . tough graders on this board. . . . is perfection in centering now the only thing anyone looks at anymore? I don't see any real flaw with this card at all. Other than I didn't have the money to buy it.

For the record, I am even more of a centering nut in my new collection than my previous one. Certain cuts, to me, aren't as bad as others though. If a card is way off then it kills the eye appeal to me. But some, like this one shown, aren't that bad and I don't mind the o/c. That being said, this specimen being talked about wouldn't be quite good enough on centering, for my new collection. But if I were going for the set or only a player collector, and didn't currently focus almost solely on centering, it would be fine.

Beautiful card. Centering be damned when a 48 Leaf has good registration.

Default 1949 LEAF Paige

I acquired this 1949 LEAF ** Paige in 1982. I traded $200 worth of cards for it at a North Jersey BB card show.
It's part of my 98-card complete set.

I guess I'm overdue to get it graded. I am sort of curious as to what grade it would get ?

Does anyone on this forum want to venture a guess (it is crease free) ? ?

. . . .

** Note

Hey guys..This LEAF BB card set was strictly issued in 1949. Whoever, came up with 1948 is absolutely mistaken.

Check-out my 1949 LEAF 8-page article in OLD CARDBOARD (Issue #9) and read all about it. I will bet that you'll
be convinced that this set is indeed a 1949 issue.

I do realize how tough this card is and did not mean to be overly critical. I actually placed an early bid and was going to bid late if it stayed in the 8k range. Since it ended up going for more I decided I would rather wait for one centered a little better even if it means spending more down the road.

i think with such crazy prices commanded recently for high grade...CENTERED cards...centering is at the forefront these days!
