I'm going to consign a vintage professional model (AKA game used) bat to one of the major auction houses. Do you folks have any thoughts about which one would be the best choice? I am impressed with REA but I would have to wait a year for the next auction, so I'm considering another venue.

You can consider Mastro. They have game used, lots of auctions and use the highly regarded John Taube (PSA/DNA) as the outside examiner/LOA-provider.

who I'd use..........both auction houses will generally give you a good advance on any item....just keep that in mind. I think Mastro Auctions have MORE game-used bats than others but who knows.......be sure to get all the terms and negotiate your lowest fee on the sell side with the highest advance as well. Always remember though if it goes low, you could actually end up owing money back! Not likely though. These guys KNOW the items they're selling..............

Agree with Mastro as the top choice, with Lelands second, and perhaps Grey Flannel third.

Please refer to the prior AMI thread, in case you were considering using them. They do a fair number of game-used bats (and do emply Taube) but if you are looking to be compensated in calendar year 2008, you would do well to look elsewhere...

How do Hunt Auctions' live auctions stack up?

I agree with the previous posts. Always remember each auction house seems to specialize for particular items. One may do better with pre-war baseball cards where as another does better with game used equipment. You have to find the one that will maximize your particular item(s).
