Default D322 Wagner PSA 3 - Valuation question?

Posted By: raymond g. pasternak

I would appreciate your comment on a "ball park value" of this card. It was found in an house when some construction work was being done. It has very sharp corners and no loss of thickness. Its well centered with absolutely NO creases. However it is partially stained, I don't know what from. I am aware there are not that many GRADED D322 Wagners, nor many PSA 3!

If you care to comment I would appreciate it very much. I found this forum to be very very knowlegable of Vintage cards and value. I am NOT trying to sell it. I want to keep it in my collection, but I am curious of its worth.

Thank You! Ray - (any comments about the cards condition is appreciated)

Is that mold on the front?

The last SGC 3 sold for $8000 (2 years ago) and the last SGC 5 sold for $45,000, but I would think with the stained front it would sell for $7000 - $10000.

If you could soak off the black stuff...

Please don't take this as bashing your card but I am not sure how that got a 3. If the black mark is as dark as the scan shows then the card would be more appropriate in a 2 holder. A nice 3 would probably be about 8k-12k (give or take)....however I am going to say this one is about 3k-4k....again, if the black mark on his head is as dark as it looks to be.....Still a great find and a valuable card.....Hopefully this helps and we'll see what others say....I know I sold a nice 2 for about 5k a few years ago....but it was really pretty nice looking.....regards

I agree except I think the eye appeal would really hurt the value. I have been wrong before though....

The scan is a bit distored. Its not as bad as it looks. The scan makes it look darker then it is.
Thanks for you comments!

Leon,
I agree with the eye appeal (should be a 1.5 or 2)...if they buyer is buying the card, like you said $3k - $4, but if they are blind and buying the slab...

But I would still love to find it working on a house!

Maybe it's a new Upper Deck relic card with original smog from Pittsburgh?

Sean,
I don't believe its mold, it looks like a water mark! Its not smog either. However it maybe black skid hockey puck marks from one of the four games the Pens beat the Senators!

Guys - I will certainly defer here as I have never either bought or sold this card, but I was tracking it in the last huggins and scott auction and this one:

sold for over $6,000 and it's missing the whole right border, plus has a crease through his head.

Matt and Ray, I've been looking for one of these for a while and have noticed a sharp uptick in sales prices. I find that generally a decent card graded Authentic can often sell for about the price of a 2 -- and that card that you posted Matt is decent but not a great Authentic due to the crease. A nice Tip Top Wagner 2 will go for a lot more than the 6K that the H & S card went for in my opinion, and I still think the H & S price is a bit high (obviously, just as the quality of a card graded 1 can be so wildly different, same as the quality of an Authentic card).

As for Ray's card, the scan isn't great and if it is as dark as in the scan, I'm not sure it's worth more or less than the Authentic H & S because you just cannot see much of Honus's head. If I had my choice, based on the lousy scan of Ray's card, I would probably rather have the Authentic H & S. Ray, if the card is just a barely decent 3 it will sell in the teens easy. Get a better scan and put it on BST and you might do really well as it is a really popular card these days.

From my original post please compare this other one I have and advise which one would you then keep. Either the PSA 3 that is stained or the following one:

I'd keep the A -- and get a better scan of the 3!

It all comes down to personal preferences I guess.

If they were my cards -
I would much rather keep the 'A' than the 3.

Of course... if you disagree -
you can keep the 3 and sell me the 'A'.

Regards,
Joe

Would you be interested in the PSA 3. Email me then. Its not as bad as the scan looks. And the card overall is in terrific shape. Nice corners, centered, and absolutely NO creases. rgprgp8618@comcast.net
Thanks for your comments and interest.

I'd keep the A over the 3. The eye appeal is much nicer.

I also agree with Jeff that the prices have gone up on this card considerably over the last year or two.
