Hello all. I wanted to give my humble introduction.

I'm a 38 year old database manager in Boston. I got into collecting at age 6 when I inherited my older brothers' cards from 1969-1980. I really got into the history of the game when my father (who turned down a try out with the St Louis Cardinals while in college!!) bought a Neff and Cohen encyclopedia when I was 11 . It sparked my interest in pre-war players and their cards.

In my modest pre-war collection I have cards dating back to an N28 Charlie Comiskey, some T206's, and others on up to Goudeys from the 1930s. I love the story of the 1912 Red Sox and their wild World Series victory and like to collect objects associated with them.

I've read some threads on here and see I can learn a lot from this group and I look forward to being part of this community. Thanks to all, and Happy New Year!

- John

Welcome to the fray, John. Finally decided to dip your toes into the water, huh? You say you like the story of the 1912 Red Sox........they had quite a few items put out pertaining to them. Here is an ad card......

Thanks for the welcome and the photo, Leon. Yes, I decided to stop dabbling in collecting and give in to my cravings and become a full-fledged addict!

It was really nice to see the old ad you posted. I am a big fan of the old time Red Sox/Americans teams. In fact, my office is located on what was once first base side foul territory of the old Huntington Avenue Grounds where Boston won the first Series in 1903. As for the 1912 Series, I guess before Boston had Buckner, New York had Snodgrass. But only one of them has his gaffe replayed at the start of every postseason game....
