Default Question About Half-Point Grades

Hey Guys,

Quick question about half-point grades. Is there a way of knowing if a card received a half-grade from it's initial SGC submission, or is it to be assumed (or understood) that all half-point grades are re-submissions? I know that half-points are relatively new but wasn't sure if they're assigned to new submissions.

I recently picked up the 15CJ below and was curious if this was a bumped grade or the initial assigned grade.

Thanks for your time.

Herb.

Default No way to know.

New submissions are candidates for the "half-point" grades as well, Herb.

I don't believe there's any process in place to track re-submits, and since a crack/submit defeats any such tracking anyway, its pretty much "that's what it is ... ".

Default half points

Herb,

All half grades are not re-submissions as I just got 2 cards that got .5 grades that were in a "raw" collection that had never seen the light of day.

The only way you would ever know if it was the same card that got bumped is if you yourself submitted for the initial grade and broke it out for re-submission as mentioned before. That is one of the issues with TPG and population "puffery" as the same card could get submitted 10 times and on the pop report it would show up as 10 separate submissions when there in actuality is only one card but it looks like there are 10 of them! Very tough to track individual cards unless you are the lone submitter.

peace, mike

That is an older holder, gold sticker on reverse, so I would say that card was originally graded an 8.5. Plus, half grades are new in grades 6 and lower for SGC. They have always had 7.5 and 8.5 as grades IIRC.

Thanks guys - that's exactly what I was looking for. I trust it's the same for PSA in that they assign half-grades for new submissions too?

Herb.

Default Psa

Since going to half grades from 1.5 to 8.5 they have issued on original submission. It would be disingenuous to only give a half grade on a review or resubmission. That does not mean you can not review cards and get .5 to full grade bumps.
