Default T206 Kleinow Question

Posted By: Jim F

Hi guys. Why does the Kleinow Boston catching seem to command such a premium over the NY catching version? It seems the NY comes up for sale less often and the pop reports have them about equal. Jim.

Default T206 Kleinow Question

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis

The T206 Kleinow (NY-catching) exists with only Piedmont 350, Sweet Cap 350, Sovereign 350, Old Mill, Polar Bear and Tolstoi backs.

While the Boston variation was printed in the 460 series and can be found with the above backs (460 Subjects) and Broad Leaf 460,
Cycle 460, Lenox and Red HINDU. So far this card has been confirmed with 13 different backs.

Despite the fact that the Boston version out-numbers the NY version by a factor of 2 to 1....the Boston version has always been
considered to be a tougher card. Your POP reports can be misleading with these two cards, simply because most dealers are more
interested in selling the much higher priced Boston version; and therefore, more of these get graded than the NY version.

Thanks Ted. I always wondered why the big difference with these cards. Even raw, the Boston version seems to come up on ebay way, way more. Jim.

Default T206 Kleinow Question

Posted By: Red

The NY Catching card comes up for sale less because it's a more difficult card. While there might be a small increase in Boston submissions due to the price guide's suggestion that the Boston card is harder, it doesn't account for why there are so many less NY catching cards submitted compared to other T206 commons. PSA shows 154 graded Boston, 106 NY Catching, and 149 NY Batting. If NY catching was an easy card it would have a pop in line of the NY Batting. In fact with only 106 graded it puts the NY Catching card down near the Southern League cards in the numbers that have been graded. There's certainly a great incentive to submit all the Southern League cards you can so when a common major league card is around a lot of the Southern League cards in pop then it should indicate that it's a harder card than the price guide suggests. Maybe the only reason the Boston sells for more is that the guide tells you it's okay to pay more.
