I know it's OT, but it is baseball, and there are references to Ruth and Grimes, if you read long enough.....

Obviously i know this is all joking but I saw Hamels pitch alot in person for a minor league team i go see alot and he was by far the best pitcher to play for that team.Theres 3 other current major league pitchers that played for Lakewood and they werent close to as effective as him

I always love a good phenom story. I play fantasy baseball, so I'm always on the lookout for them. I've had Felix Hernandez on my staff the past two years, I just picked up Scott Kazmir, and I'm waiting for Nelson Liriano to take off. I realize the history of baseball is littered with failed "can't miss" prospects, but for me they are a big part of game's mythic appeal, the promise of great things to come every spring. Every time I hear about a new lefthander with a blazing fastball, I think of the relief pitcher in "The Natural" who faces Roy Hobbs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning ...

Francisco Liriano, not Nelson Liriano (sub par retired infielder) is a cut above the rest and they are working him into the rotation like they did Santana and it looks like he's staying there now that Lohse was sent to the minors. I have seen Cole is person as well and while I was impressed having seen Brett Myers pitch twins in the minors, Cole appears to have better stock. But can someone explain to me what the hell is wrong with Felix? He isn't living up to his billing with two lonely wins this season. Oh well, it's most certainly hit or miss. Ask Ruben Mateo and Alex Escobar, two players who people probably banked college funds on and who cards are as useless as those beaned toys that were all the hype.

I think the thing thats wrong with Felix is he just wont get old soon enough. He turned 20 last month and has 20 major league starts already. Not bad when the average pitcher makes it to the majors around age 25.Id give him a little time first before i got worried

Felix will be fine, the Mariners are doing everything right when it comes to looking out for him. They have him on a strict pitch count per game and an inning count for the season( the rule of thumb is take the pitchers age and multiple by 10 meaning 200 innings this season). Again, remember he's only 20 years old. Look at Gooden from 1984-1986, way over used.

Pitch counts are a joke, if they were so great how come guys have just as many if not more injuries than in the past. Guys used to regularly have 250-300 inning seeasons with long careers (10 plus years). Why didn't they fall apart? I think Gooden's problems were more drug related than physical.

PITCHERS ARE BABIED AND SO NO GREATER RESULTS THEN THE PITCHERS OF THE PAST.

By the way the couple of times I saw Cole Hamels (pre-injury) pitch I was very impressed

Lee
