Default Today at the antiques market

I picked up a couple pieces to sell on ebay today. A scrapps card of R Caruthers and a Gus Durais pin (he played QB for Notre Dame when Knute was playing there. There was a super Winchester bat, but he had rediculous price of $800 on it. Also had an early 30s ball with red and black stitching (I didn't recognize the brand)for $350. This same dealer had a 2" oval advertising fob with Ty Cobb batting on the front for $95. Has anyone ever seen one or have an oppinion on value? It doesn't have his name on it, but the guy has an ad from the teens that shows Cobb endorsing the product from the back of the fob.

Nice pickups Mike. $95 for a watch fob with Cobb on it that has advertising provenance??? That sounds like a heck of a deal. If it were me I'd be going back to pick that up. FWIW the only baseball player watch fobs that I've seen from that era are Napoleon Lajoie which I have seen about 3 or 4 over the years.

I did a little garage sale hunting yesterday and found two old Warren Giles baseballs with one stamped with the president of the Western League on one it (G.H. Johnson)....Probably a game used ball in a Lincoln Athletics game. Not bad at a buck a piece for old Spalding baseballs.

Thanks for the input. It's a pretty good stamped likeness of Cobb batting. Does a good deal for $95 mean you think it's a $100 piece or $200?

I don't know what it would sell for, but if it's obvious that it's Ty Cobb and you have an advertisement with him endorsing the product I'd say it's an easy money maker.

I've seen the Lajaoie fob sell for over $800 in an REA auction.

edited to add: I just reread your post - so it's a stamped likeness of Cobb and not a photo? That changes things. Might be worth about what he wants for it. Do you remember what the product advertised was?

Yeah Dan, I've seen the Napolean fob and this is nothing like it or I would have been all over it. I don't remember the product, but do remember I had never heard of it. It's a stamped image of him swinging the bat. Has raised collar jersey, but no uni logo or text on the front.

Mike, they reproduced a Ty Cobb fob that is oval shaped and says something like elastica or something like that on the back. There's a picture of one in the Baseball Treasures book if you have one.

THAT is the piece. This guy had amazing stuff, so he probably isn't a scammer. That being said, who knows about everything. It could have been a repro. Thanks for the heads up.
