i can contribute.. to my knowledge this is the only known example of the cobb red port OP... . i would be interested in knowing if any other collectors are aware of a 2nd example out there..

I just love threads like this, even though this thread makes me regret that in 25-30 years of collecting vintage type cards, I never picked up one of these T213-3 overprints. Sadly, it just never became a high enough priority.

Hey Pete, it's funny that Donlin doesn't have a team listed in the caption. Is he the only one without one?

I know that he had been retired for six or seven years. On his 1914 Type-2 card they wrote ".300 hitter for 7 years" instead of listing a team. Maybe in 1919 they decided that leaving it blank was better. Perhaps the fact that they included him at all so long after he retired is a testament to what a popular player he was back then.

A number of retired players were included without team captions, including Chance, Crawford, Lajoie, and Wiltse.
