Default Wheatland Auction Services- FRESH - CENTURY-OLD CARDS AUCTION Ends 3/6/16

FRESH COLLECTION OF CENTURY-OLD CARDS AT AUCTION

Wheatland Auction Services is offering hundreds of T205, T206 and T207 cards from an elderly man’s estate as part of its newly-launched Winter Auction.

Cobb. Mathewson. Johnson. McGraw. Name any player from the tobacco card era and there’s a decent chance his baseball card was quietly sitting in a virtually unknown collection of tobacco cards inside a Pennsylvania home.

Now, this long running but fresh-to-the-hobby collection consisting of hundreds of pre-War gems, is on the auction block.
http://wheatlandauctionservices.com/

Lancaster,PA-based Wheatland Auction Services is offering the cards—including a T206 Ty Cobb red portrait factory 42 example graded BVG 7 expected to fetch thousands—in its first quarter auction of 2016. The group also includes a T206 Cobb (bat off shoulder) graded SGC 70, three T205 Cobb cards two T206 Walter Johnson factory 42 (hands at chest) cards, a T206 Bill O’Hara St. Louis Nat’l with Polar Bear back (BVG 2), two T206 Ray Demmitt St. Louis American with Polar Bear back (BVG 1), multiple T206 Cy Young and Christy Mathewson cards and a 1911 E94 Hans Lobert “Oh You Fan” overprint (BVG 3.5).

Post-War collectors will have a chance at hundreds of early 1950s Topps & Bowman baseball cards, multiple bulk vintage lots from 1909 through 1979, a large assortment of autographed and game used memorabilia, and current era cards and sealed hobby wax boxes and other items.

It looks like they have turned a negative into a positive by adding in house packing and shipping to their repertoire of services, unless of course this doesn't reduce their shipping charges.

I am thinking it's a live and learn scenario. We have all been there. Myself, far too many times to count.

Default Piedmont Factory 42

Seems to be a lot of Piedmont 350-460 Factory 42 cards here. I was wondering if this sheds any light on where these cards were distributed, and whether or not this could lead T206 research anywhere else.

Good auction for T205 cards. Won a T205 Evers and T205 Mordecai Brown at some fairly reasonable prices. Now we will see how much shipping is for 2 cards.

Default Won a bunch of cards

Picked up several T206 factory 42 backs. Wish I stayed in on the Cobb it went for a steal, IMHO. Thought prices ranged from cheap to wow that was a strong price. left many ceiling bids that did not get approached and was blown out on some other material. Will be happily picking up my winnings this week. Thanks to Chuck, Stacy, and Bill for a great auction.

About the same as Glyn. Grabbed a T206 P42 at a reasonable price and a few non-sports lots below my max bids. Got blown out on a couple other lots. Nice auction with many great offerings and i liked the ending format.

I hesitated on a T206 Tannehill, would've likely graded out nicely

I was about the 2nd under bidder on the P42 Cobb. I thought whomever got it got a good deal but not a steal.

Default I dont know Leon

I saw a PSA 5.5 Vic Wills with bat sell for $4000 in Cleveland with a P42 back. I think this card has a real good shot at crossing having looked at it with a loupe. I think the buyer could cross and give to Goodwin or REA and reap an immediate profit. We were in around the same level. I am having remorse for not hitting it one more time.

What did the Matty P42 go for? It seemed way low at around $2,000...but I'm just not sure what the future holds as to a premium for the P42's....so I held off on it.

i
I thought (possibly) one of the corners would have held it from crossing to a 7. I was very interested in it because the centering and coloring were great too. I wish I had seen it in person. I might have gone higher. I need to move to the midwest/NE...

ps...I cleaned up your post deleting all of those blank spaces..fyi

I won the P42 Johnson. The last T206 (minus the BL460) that I needed for my back run. Beautiful color and centering, so I'm happy.

Cheers,
Steve
