Default 1914 Matty Cracker Jack

Posted By: James Gallo

Oh so I watched and even bid a bit on this card.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=013&item=230022535617&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

a 1914 Matty PSA 1, which in turn I think would be a SGC 20.

A really nice looking card for the grade.

Does anyone else think the card went cheap?

James Gallo

Looking for 1915 Cracker Jacks and 1909-11 American Caramel E90-1.

Whenever user bids are private the seller may just as well state: "I am giving you a 20% discount."

I'm not real sure this would get better that an SGC 10. Grading is accurate at PSA 1. I'm not a Cracker Jack collector but believe the Matty is over-rated. Price probably right for the card.

I take it you've never tried to put together a 1914 CJ set. The Matty is always high on collectors want lists as it doesn't seem to come up for sale very often. There are also a number of other very difficult cards to get in that set too. The set is not for the feint of heart, especially if you are condition concious.

Jay

I love pinatas. You get to beat the crap of something and get rewarded with candy.

The corner isn't clipped that badly, but it is hard to tell form the pictures. It's also hard to tell from the pictures if it was downgraded for any other reason then the corner

I find that PSA dumps a lot of cards in the 1 catogory that SGC or GAI will give a 1.5 or a SGC 20.

This is also why there are a lot of different looking PSA 1's

I believe the last 1914 MAtty was a SGC 30 and went in the 25-30K range.

I thought this card should have gone closer the the 10K range based on the fact that although it was low grade it presented really well.

This is the type of card I would have liked to get but timing has not been on my side with stuff like this lately.

Private auction is ALWAYS scary and the fact that this seller hasn't had an eBay transaction in over five years.

Maybe, just maybe, some people requested better scans and those requests went ignored.

IMO It might have sold for higher than I thought it should. First I think the card is overrated as far as what some have sold for. Second the Private bidding (hidden bidders so no one can contact him and tell him the card scan is stolen, if thats the case). Third, the seller hasnt had a single feedback in close to 5 years (major red flag, unless he has been in the pokey for last 5 years, still not good). Fourth, NO PAYPAL.

A PSA-4 sold for $25K in April (from a "no risk" seller with 3527 feedback, 100% positive)

I am aware of the scarcity and difficulty of this card, but I don't think it's worth almost $5K.

I emailed the guy and asked him if I won the card, could I bring him cash. He said "absolutely NOT!" He would only release the card once the funds had cleared his account. I was seriously considering going after the card until he responded as he did. It makes no since to reject an offer of cash unless it was a scam. I would be very curious if the winner ever sees this card. I would bet that he will not. BTW... If anyone is interested in a trade, I have an SGC 40. dan@chiprop.com

It's a scam. I don't even feel sorry for the person who let his greed override all of the warning signs that screamed out, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!"
