Default National Sports Equipment show ????

Posted By: Alan

There used to be a "National" sports equipment show held annually in the Baltimore and/or Washington areas in the late 1990's. I think radio sports host & Senators collector Phil Wood was the coordinator or something. The show was small, but a lot of vintage stuff could be found !!! And, you could be sure there was no current crap. Does anyone know what happened to it and if they will get it going again somewhere ? Thanks.

Alan

I live in VA, but it is close enough to me for a day trip up that way, it is only three or so hours to DC or Baltimore area. Do you know the shop name?

ellicot city is about 15 minutes south of baltimore. its a neat old town whose main street is filled with antique shops, local breweries and restaurants. worth a day trip (and theres a railroad museum - good excuse to drag the kids).

the store is called cottage antiques. the sports stuff only takes up a small corner of the store but it's usually a really good selection of old bats, masks, gloves, and some amazing collectables. id call first- the owners, like i said, is a big collector and if there's something youre looking for, he may be able to bring it in for you if he knows youre coming

And it is even south of Baltimore so it is closer to me than initially thought. My Father-in-law is a huge train fanatic, so maybe it could be fun for all.

The guy that you are looking for is Blair Jett. Call him ahead of time as he is often out of the store. He usually does Ft Washington once a year as well.

The old equipment show was one of the best shows on the east coast. I was lucky enough to live about a mile away from where it was held in the late 1990's. It was held at a small hotel and there was only like 20 tables, but there was no junk. Jeff Eastland used to do the show. He would arrive about 1PM with about 40 pieces to sell. I would wander in about 1-2PM and buy about 25 of them and by the time the doors opened at 5PM he would only have like 2 items in his showcase. Good times......

He sold most of his collection in the REA auction last year and sells on ebay although I can't remember his user name off the top of my head.

He mostly sells high end postcards in all subject matters.

When I lived in Maryland we used to get together from time to time for dinner, he is really a good guy.
