Default July Pickups

My first card of the month arrived today and boy, is it a beauty. It's easily the centerpiece of my meager collection and a card I've wanted since 1989 when I got a reprint of this out of a '89 Bowman pack.

Sorry for the phone pic, it's all I have at work. What have you guys gotten so far this month?

Just got these in the mail today. If anyone has any of these they're interested in selling let me know. I'll also buy duplicates.

Everything there is to know is on Dave's blog :

And, if anybody has an April Bole card they want to get rid of, I would love to finish my set with it...

Very cool/odd. So how many do we speculate there are? I see Dave's blog says 10, but now you're mentioning another one...

Thanks Dave, that was a good read. Are any of these graded? Any recent sale prices? And how many people collect these, any ideas?

Got this in the mail today... I'm a little concerned about the frosting around the edges of the slab, and there's a little piece that is cracked and loose in the top left of the slab as well. Thoughts?

Anyhow, I'm down to the '49 Bowman, '50 Bowman, '53 Topps, and '56 Topps to complete my basic Jackie Robinson set.

A tough Topps test issue but because it has no actual players associated with it, not too well known. Very, very difficult I think-never ever seen one before. Got a bit more on it here:

Not me actually-the buyer of that lot posts here sometimes though. I bought my three from the same seller but in a direct sale.

haven't been able to get many upgrades for my 52 Indians set lately, but then this week I managed to pick up two. Pretty excited to get them.

I've always thought the '52 Easter is one of the best looking cards ever created. Scans can't really pick all the background colors up but they are quite nuanced.

I like the card as well, but having grown up in St Louis during the Gibson era, pink turned out to be all wrong

Thanks guys...I like the baseball card more than the man, though. Quite the jerk in person in my experience...

For some reason, the scan came out blurry... but anyhow.. Added another to my collection...

2 down, 11 more to go for the set.. working on a deal to get the Awaiting The Pitch card (though will only be a PSA 2 most likely).
Once I get all my new additions into PSA, I should move up to top 3 on Jackie Robinson master set.

Great looking Munson Patrick, so often they are far off center.

Default Flea Market Find

I just came back from the flea market and it was a scorcher. Got there right at the open as folks were setting up. An old guy had a box of cards. I went up looked threw them real quick. He wanted 20. I said will you take 15? He said I haven't even looked threw em yet but ok.

A bunch of commons and some not so commons. And I apologize that some of these are not baseball.

Wow OJ RC. No matter what the condition, $15 is probably worth it just for that one card. Good pickup!

Thanks Rob. That's a Joe Greene rookie as well. I have been researching some of them. A bunch of 1970, 71 football and baseball rookies.

I actually find the lot you found kind of amusing.. It's amazing that the Namath's, Starr's, Joe Green, Oj rookie and such are just floating around loose, while the eric rasmussen and joe niekro are in toploaders. I don't know why, but I just find that funny as hell.

Nice upgrade Dan. I finished a Red Sox 52 team set awhile back and there are a ton of Red Sox highs. Maybe there is an average amount of Sox in the highs (311-407) but it seemed liked there were more then average. Hope you have your highs completed and good luck.

Spahn RC was from a N54 member

Clemente was an upgrade, still trying to get one with better centering!

Dan,

Wow@the Spahn! Very nice - I haven't had much luck in finding the '47 Tip Top Bread cards..

The Clemente looks pretty good too. I was wondering what happened to yours, as the Clemente was the only card keeping you from 100% on the Post HOF RCs on PSA Registry.

Do they have a registry for all Baseball HOF RCs Pre and Post-war?

I'll have some nice Jackie Robinson Bond Breads to post in the next few days including a Pop 5 (Glove in the air)
