ad on craigslist It seems like these "discoveries" happen once a week. I wonder what he'll say when I ask him about it?

Its a fairly common card, so not surprising that they are found often... its also not a rookie and is doubleprinted, so overrated IMO...

not quite as common as one of his 2 true rookies (1951Bowman), or the cheapest rookie (1951/53 Exhibit).

PS.His rarest rookie will be the 1951 Wheaties Test Issue.

I bought a '51 Bowman in the late eighties that looked like it had been in Indiana Jones' front pocket for years. The story is it was found under the seat of a retired taxi cab that was being prepped for scrap. I paid $250 for it back then. That was just a Mantle story to tie in to the post.

So you guys don't have much love for the 1952 Topps Mantle.

I understand.

After reading through this post for some reason something someone put at the end of an email came to mind. I'd bought some odd minor league card of a PCL player from the 50's or so, I think. It was about a $6 deal on eBay, $2 of which was postage. This was before the days of everything going through Paypal. Anyway... at the end of his email that had the dollars and the address, he'd added this: "I like to sit outside, drink beer, and hollar at people. If I do that at home I go to jail. But if I do that at a baseball game, I fit right in." For some reason that seems appropriate in a Mantle thread.
