Default PSA 5 Plank on ebay- where will it end?

I don't know who the seller is nor have any knowledge of this sale other than seeing it on ebay. Just curious where our members think this will end, price-wise?

I wonder why the current seller bought the card. He's only had it for a few weeks.

Default Plank

The seller gave the card a pretty detailed write up in the auction description.

My guess $90K

My guess is that it will get pulled if it doesn't get to what he has in it.

This should be interesting as the seller would take a huge monetary hit to end the auction with ebays new rules.

I don't blame ebay a bit for this.
A rare change that I agree with.

Default Poll: The PSA 5 Plank will end at? / Ebay Rule Change

Wow, i was unaware of that ebay rule change too... yes i think i actually agree with it too. If a seller is worried about this (the item selling too low), they should probably just start the auction at a higher price...

As for this beautiful T206 Plank, i say $71,000 - assuming it runs its course that is.

Does anybody have an explanation why this guy started selling this Plank the day after he won it? Did he really expect to turn a profit? Or was it just buyers remorse?
Maybe he just wanted to be able to say he owned a Plank, even if only for a month.

Back to the main question what will it sell for? If its a valid auction I think it will exceed 110K, Why? Equity market up more than 12% in 2 months and general consensus is there is little stopping it in 2013. In my opinion those gains and look forward optimism will increase spending on "luxury and non-essential" items. T206's in general will see a continued increase in popularity and pricing in 2013 and we will see more individuals building collections.

A bit off topic, but why is the Plank worth so much? I've never heard of him.

This Plank was just featured at Lelands. I'm sure anyone who would be buying this card now would have been aware of this exact same one at Lelands. It sold for 85,000 with the juice there.

I doubt a 12% percent improvement in the market would affect the bidders of this card.

I knew that was a scam bid from day one. The private bidding was a cover for a reserve. I was out bid with in seconds of it posting... I reported it to eBay as them bidding on their own item but it went no where. They should have just set a reserve. I also remembr that card posting for the first time as a bin for 50k. A few days later the price was 90k. SCAM

Default complete sham

been watching it myself....

its clearly a scam. look at the guys items for sale. does plank fit into that, even a little bit?

a guy spends that kind of cash to flip a card. the whole thing is ridiculous. i can't believe the auction is being debated. nothing to talk about. complete sham.

I bid at $50,000 just for the sake of bidding $50,000. I think my pulse reached about 120 by the time I clicked bid.

Well, 43 board members were right (I wasn't one of them)

So, does this seller really have to pay for pulling the auction? I'm not up on the ebay rules, but I saw Nelson's post and thought to myself that I wouldn't want to be the seller if that was the case. Was the auction a scam? I'm confused (again)

Sincerely, Clayton

Hi Clayton. Directly from the eBay website:

Fees

Ending an auction-style listing early once it has received a bid can lead to disappointed and frustrated buyers who may be less likely to bid on listings the next time around, so you may be charged a fee if you end a listing early. This fee is equal to the final value fee (not including shipping charges) you would have paid if the listing had ended on its own and sold for the highest bid received when the seller ended the listing.

This fee is charged if you cancel bids and end an auction-style listing early without a buyer.

This fee isn't charged if you end an auction-style listing early and sell to the high bidder. (In this case, final value fees apply.)

This fee doesn't apply to listings in the Real Estate and eBay Motors vehicle categories, and the Classified Ads selling format.

Because we understand that sometimes it may be necessary to end a listing early, you won't be charged a fee for the first auction-style listing you end early (where a fee applies) per calendar year (January 1 to December 31).

He better hope it's his "free out" of the year...otherwise it could get pricey

Hi Steve-

Thanks. I find it odd that the guy (or gal) would go through all of this hassle to have to end up paying "anything" Why list it, pull it, and have to pay ebay??? It sounds lame. And why waste everyone's time? It sounds like he/she even had legit bidders?

Sincerely, Clayton

My bid had been blown out about 12-15k ago ..... but that's not really the issue.
You are right ..... it sucks, but the seller probably got a side offer and ended it.
Or ..... maybe just an idiot who took a small fee to conduct a stunt to see what kind of interest there was even though it just came off the auction block.

There are 2 theories one is that the plate was broken or damaged early in the production run. The other is that he was opposed to cards being placed in tobacco products as was Wagner. The truth is nobody is really sure about why this card is so scarce, but the first theory does not seem very likely as the card is known to have come in two different series therefore you would have to accept that both plates were broken or damaged early in the printing process. Anyone who has more knowledge of this please feel free to enlighten.
