Default T206 HOFers....Let's post all 76 of them

Continuing from Paul's (T206Collector) popular thread, which included Brian's great Checklist,
the "260 T206 Cards - The Half Monster" was a lot of fun (and informative).
Let's play the same game with the 76 subjects in this set that represent HOFers. The rules are:

(1) show a T206 HOFer card from your collection each day. Only one HOF subject per each post.
Multiple cards of this same subject with various backs is certainly acceptable. Do check-out that
your HOFer has not already been posted in the thread. Also, include a story if you would like.

(2) you are allowed 2 posts within a 24-hour period.

I will start this Show with my 2nd favorite T206 HOFer, Eddie Plank from Gettysburg, PA. If you
have not visited Gettysburg, I highly recommend it. It is an amazing part of American History.
Walter Johnson (portrait) is my all-time favorite T206 HOFer card.

Default T206 Cobb (Bat On)

Great idea! I'll do my very first T206 card of all. Number 1 of hopefully 520 soon.
Bought at the 2013 NSCC with great trepidation.

Having the pedigree from one of the Greats in card collecting is the icing on the cake.

In my first batch of vintage cards, and if I were to ever have to sell my whole collection, this would be the single card I would hold onto.

This is my favorite T206 out of the 100+ in my collection. I sold it once (on here) and then wound up seeing it listed for sale in the B/S/T at a later date. Since I was feeling "seller's remorse" from the time I shipped it away, I purchased it immediately upon seeing the sales post.

Bender Portrait

My first T206.
Purchased ~20 years ago right here on Net54 (well the old version anyway), sold at some point, and then repurchased on eBay some years later!

My very first T206 card ever was a red Cobb in June 2018. I've been hooked ever since. For several reasons I sold that card, and have since replaced it with this one recently from BST thanks to another Net54 member.

I'd say that 80 - 90 % of the PIEDMONT 150 green portrait Cobb's are off-center top-to-bottom as this one is.

I collect Charles Bender cards. Of my T206s, this is my nicest which tells you the condition of the other two.

The first pre-war cards I owned were T206s of Tinker, Evers, and Chance. I bought them out of ads in hobby publications in the 70s/early 80s. For a long time they were in a little display frame.

Default Frank Chance port

My first T206 was a Joe Tinker hands on knees Sov 150. I traded it away a long time ago. At the same show I got a T213-3 Chance port that I sold a long time ago and got back a long time ago. Here's a Chance port I picked up a few months back... For some reason Tinker hands on knees is hard to find in nice shape, so I'm still looking for at least one.

The key, if possible, is to always pick up a T206 Hall of Famer before they become one. I got this one for common pricing before he was elected.

Bill Dahlen, anyone? (although it has been a long time since he was a mere commoner)

Default Clark Griffith

His career 237-146 record and his "Sly old fox" reputation made him an important pitcher between 1891-1907 and a regular in Cap Anson's 3-man rotation in Chicago. His friendship with Ban Johnson and his influence with the players of the time positioned him to be instrumental in the early success of the American League. He is credited with persuading 39 NL players to jump to the new league for its inaugural 1901 season. He was the first manager of the New York Highlanders and when that didn't work out, he became the manager and eventually owner of the Washington Americans.

rats60 posted his Cobb while I was typing in mine.

Do we think alike ?

The variability in background color on this card is interesting, ranging from light to dark purple and even near-reddish on some examples.
Same can be said for the Eddie Collins, Frank Chance portraits, etc.
I've always thought this is a really attractive T206 HOF'er, though.

Chance, red Portrait

These are the saddest of possible words:
"Tinker to Evers to Chance."
Trio of bear cubs, and fleeter than birds,
Tinker and Evers and Chance.
Ruthlessly pricking our gonfalon bubble,
Making a Giant hit into a double–
Words that are heavy with nothing but trouble:
"Tinker to Evers to Chance."

Before starting his HOF 21 season career, Clarke played for the 1894 Savannah Modocs of the old Southern Assoc.

Thankfully Jack Chesbro has a card in the T206 set, otherwise Hall of Fame collectors would really have to scramble to nail down a card of his during his playing career.

Default Mordecai

Back in 1986, I went to a show hoping to find a 1970T Nolan Ryan. It was a small show in a mall & I was still looking when I came to the last table. That seller didn't have one either & Ryan was not to be added to my collection that day. He did however have a small box with about 80-100 cards that caught my eye. I'd never seen a tobacco card in person & I knew I had to have one. Well, 3 ended up coming home with me including this one.

One of my favorite players from the set, the stories told about him are the best.

"He was notably unpredictable; early in his career, he would often leave in the middle of a game to go fishing. He also had a longstanding fascination with fire trucks, and had run off the field to chase after them during games on multiple occasions."
