I'm researching this set. Can anybody help with scans, info on distribution, scarcity, etc. I never see these for sale/auction. All replies appreciated. Randy

The ole F66's (Hughs Frozen Confections).....a very esoteric interesting set that I know nothing about (sorry for the extra scans) ...I think I have another card at home in a pile somewhere....

Thanks for the scan Leon, who is the player? I see a Melvin Wasley and Mel Almada in the checklist. I can't quite make out the last name on the card.

Hi Randy-
I collect only Sacramento baseball items, but that does include the Hughes Frozens. The Old Cardboard website does have a good basic description of the set. Of course, the set only includes Sacramento Solons players from the 1940 season and the one pictured above is Mel Wasley. I have 14 of the 20 (need Almada, Asbell, Handley, King, McLaughlin & Riel)and can supply some scans if you want. At that time local ice cream producer Max Hughes sold ice cream bars--vanilla dipped in chocolate--at Cardinal Field. The cards were put right inside the paper wrapper next to the bars. Since it does get hot in Sacramento during baseball season, most of the cards have the characteristic brown chocolate stain! I have a friend who swears they also produced bars dipped in orange and some cards may have an orange stain--however I've yet to see one.
