Default scam "Second Chance Offers"

Posted By: fkw

I just got an email from "ebay-customer-support@ebay.com", it was for a second chance offer on the 1911 Zeenut Weaver card that just ended at $2,500+. It was funny because my top bid was 1/4th the winning bid ($666). I know the seller (A UK card dealer) fairly well, have bought from him in the past and actually emailed with him a couple times this week. The scam 2nd chance offer had the contact info of "los.angeles.90045@gmail.com", so I knew it wasnt him.

Just letting you know the scams are getting better. If my bid was closer to the top, and I didnt know the seller too well I may have fallen for it.

Frank

Frank, I just got one for $750 on the same Weaver and reported him to ebay. Minutes later I got a Second Chance Offer from the same guy, this time on a Sporting News Jackson and the seller was different.

Frank,

Got 3 myself today. I sent mine onto eBay, but I did CC: los.angeles.90045@gmail.com on the forwarded emails to eBay. I think he should stay in the loop.

If the second chance offer doesn't show up in "myebay" (in your ebay account section) then it's not legitimate. I received a few second chance offers a while back that were legitimate and they were relatively good deals.

Hi Fred,
What I hate the most are those"second place deals" that come 3 seconds after the auction ends. They claim they have another card or pack, but refuse to send you a picture. Shill bidding at it's finest, even through EBAY. I'm glad you have been lucky enough to get a few second chance bargains, because I sure haven't. Be well Brian

Edited to note: I have been playing Mr Mom fpr 3 days with my wife at the beach, so I may not be able to frame a sentence......

The funniest thing about the scams is that they're all from the same seller - despite the fact that each of the auctions were from different sellers. I got a few from the same seller today.

My first thought was that "hey this is a deal" because the guy who won it had a 2 feedback and I thought he might have been a shill. But then reality set in and I know jacklitsch would kill for the card and he bid $1500 more than I did and there was no way he would turn it down, so I figured it was a fraud...

I once got a scam second-chance offer for one of Lew Lipset's ebay auctions. The email address wasn't Lew's, so I knew it was fake. It was something I wanted badly (McPhee, of course), so I forwarded it to Lew just to be sure. He confirmed it was fake.

Got a 2nd chance today as well. Was bummed when I found out it was a spoof.

And good advice about confirming it in your "My Messages" on eBay...

Lucky me. Apparently for $750 the Zeenut Weaver is mine!

The card is the same
The deal will go strictly according to eBay's rules and policy
regarding to this second chance offer- to start the official transaction, I
need to know your details
-full name,full address
As soon as I have them I'll start the official procedure, and eBay will
notify you about this. You'll also receive important guidelines +
instructions from them (please go through them exactly).
I'll handle the shipping, so this will be free of charge for you + I am
willing to deduct you with the fee for handling the payment procedure.
Also, a refund policy will be included.
Looking forward to hearing from you

Hello. I just received a second chance offer on the card from ebay for $750.00. Is this the same card or is it another card you have of the same player? If it is another card, could you please send me a scan? If it's the same card, I'll take it. If it is another card and close to the same condition, I'll take it also.
Sincerely,
Bob M.

Bob -

You're kidding, correct? That follow-up email you got is standard operating procedure for scammers.

Edited to add - this is a good way to make a new Romanian friend, however.

Bill

I didn't fall off the watermelon truck, as we say in the South.
I passed on the scam but wanted to report it.
I am concerned that Steve has added the Weaver scan on the pick up card thread and hopefully he didn't fall for the scam.

and it was my understanding that under Forum rules you could only post cards on the Recent Pick Up Threads if you had actually picked it up.

Please pardon my ignorance, but why is it considered good in the South to stay on fruit or vegetable trucks?

Since Hope, Arkansas (home of Prez Bill) is the watermelon capital of the world, I guess we just use that term
Seriously, if you received the card, that's great. I assume you dealt with Brit Cards and not the scammer who was sending out the email second chance offers. On the Weaver, wasn't there a 2 feedback guy who actually won it. Hmmm, if he didn't take it you have to wonder if he were a shill...
If you DID get the card and all is well, CONGRATS!
Bob
P.S. Now find me a Halla

I will be getting the Weaver. Should arrive tomorrow, Tuesday at the latest. Richard at Brit Cards is quite the gentleman and the trnasaction was smooth as silk. I will post the actual card (rather than the ebay scan) when received. I too need the Halla and I could use a spare Bohen for trade bait

of maybe 25% of their offer and a request for their telephone number and address!

Then report it if I get it.
