Default US Coins Being Overstruck Into Tokens

I purchased this coin when it was first available, a 1963 D Kennedy Half Dollar,
an overstrike on a 1964 Kennedy Half dollar, from an engraver who uses a surplus Denver Mint coin press

Kennedy half dollars weren't issued until 1964. Could you explain again how this is dated 1963.

What about all those machines you put change into that presses it into a token?
Then there is all the painted bills and change. Would like to know what exactly you would have to do for it to be illegal.

Oh, I absolutely agree with you. You see a lot of those press machines in gift/souvenir shops and I don't know how they get away with it, but they do. Maybe nobody cares and it's just not worth pursuing legally?

Looks like defacing or mutilating pennies and nickels is fine.

Default Am I getting the point?

So it's okay to trim a Wagner, but don't trim a Jacklitsch.

I had never heard of a hobo nickel. Now after finding out what they are I will have to add one to my collection of fine merchandise(unfocused junk).

Hobo nickels are great. I pick them up whenever I see them, unless they're modern machine made ones.
