Default 1917 E135 Rogers Hornsby PSA Population Report Needed

Posted By: Richard

Greetings, if anyone can check to see the PSA population report for a 1917 E135 Collins-McCarthy Rogers Hornsby it would be greatly appreciated. If possible broken down by grades. I look forward to a reply. I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and hope you all get those Vintage cards you want.
Thanks

As far as SGC (if you havent checked yet).

(updated to show both 1916 and 1917 graded E135 style cards)

Boston Store.... None
Collins-McCarthy..... 1-SGC20, 2-SGC30, 1-SGC70
Standard Biscuit......None
Weil Baking.........None
Merchants Bakery.......None
Blank Back.......None

The E135 group is scarce, far scarcer than the M101-5/E121 groups, but they are out there. I would have thought more Hornsby's would have been graded, so that is a bit strange.

Nice card.

I just picked up a low grade Sisler (Bos.Store) today.

FKW,thanks for the additional information. I appreciate your time checking for me. I read somewhere that the E135 Hornsby is known only with the Collins-McCarthy back or blank back. Seems like a pretty scarce card. I am looking for two E135's in particular. They are Harry Heilmann and Sam Rice. If you run across them anywhere would appreciate a heads up.
Thanks again

Richard,

The E135 Hornsby (as well as all of the other E135's) are known with all of the different backs. Don't you still have the E135 Hornsby that you bought on ebay a few years ago?

Hi Andy, yes I still have my Hornsby. Trying to locate another. I did not know it was known with other backs. Hope you are doing well Andy. I still have that E107 Bender also that I purchased from you. Only death will part me from that one. LOL
Have a great Christmas Andy

Andy, do you have access to PSA pop reports? I do not have the subscription. Could you check on 1910 E103 Williams Caramal Bender and 1895 N300 Mayo's Hugh Duffy for me? Also, a 1934-36 Diamond Star Mickey Cochrane? I would appreciate it.
Thanks

I doubt it.

Just too many hassles with people using images from it, etc.

I still have all the scans in my computer if I need them.

An e135 Hornsby sold on EBay recently? It didn't show up in any of my EBay Advanced Searches. Could someone post a link. I missed that one.

Hey Richard, I made a mistake on the SGC Pop Report. I punched in "1917", and SGC used to grade the cards also as 1916, so they have them listed in both years. There are 4 total graded between the 2 years. (I updated list in my above post).

You bought a e135 off of EBay recently? Can you show a link? I missed it somehow.

Richard bought his E135 Hornsby on Ebay years ago. I just remember because I had pointed him to the card at the time, since I knew he was looking for one. I already owned one when it showed up, which is now in Darren's (Cat's) collection, and is posted above.

I have a Holsum Bread Hornsby in vg that I paid about $50 for, several years ago...I thought I overpaid for it....I classify most of these as W cards as Burdick did....but that's for another thread.....Neat cards....

I should mention whenever Burdick gave a number to the E121/E135 types then I do use that number and not "W"....W575-1 seems to be the catch all for non-cat'd cards

Cat, I purchased my E135 Hornsby about 6 years ago on ebay. Andy you have a great memory as you did indeed provide me with the tip that the card was up for auction. They do not come up for sale very often as I think most are in private collections. Thank you to all who replied to my post.

Leon,

Is Hornsby listed as 1B or 2B on your Holsum card? The Holsum's are interesting. If Hornsby is listed as 1B, then it corresponds to the E135 set. If he is listed as 2B (with the same pose), then the card corresponds to a ca. 1920 issue.

Hal:

You would be shocked if you knew how much time I used to stare at your Hielmann and Hornsby (back when your site was still active and I didn't have my cards yet...just picked the Heilmann up in the Hunt Louisville Auction...Hornsby within the last year).

Leon:

Isn't it amazing how overpaying for cards somewhat takes care of itself over time. The VG Holsum Hornsby in Mastro just went for $1,200+ including vig.

Andy:

It seems like I have a few cards that have went through your collection. I didn't realize how much I was going to enjoy the Young card. It's one of my favorites. I have it perfectly centered in the holder at this point. It took a lot of playing to get it that way. I have actually thought about putting staples through the holder (one inch from the edge of the card) to keeep it from slipping and sliding around. Any chnce that SGC would put it in one of their new holders in AUT?

Darren,

You have quite a few cards that once resided in my collection.

I don't know if SGC will slab the W600 as AUTH, but I don't see why they wouldn't. I got it slabbed by GAI, because no one else was was slabbing large cards at the time.

I will have to check into it, as far as what position it says Hornsby played. I don't categorize them that way though. First I will go by ACC number, then I will go by the look of the card. The larger cards like these, without a number on bottom front, I categorize as W575-1 Unc...and the ones with the number at bottom I categorize as E135-Unc....This is sort of a gray area but I do my best to follow Burdick's thoughts....
