It's been a while since I've had a bat sent to me through the mail, but the standard I grew accustomed to was for the bat to be placed first in a clear bat tube (with the rubber caps affixed at both ends) and for that to be placed in a triangular shipping box, with some paper or shipping peanuts placed around the tube in side the box. Seemed to work well.
