Default T206 Foot Fetish

Did you ever notice that only three players in the whole set are shown with their shoes on? Perhaps it's because the distorted images make the players look pretty funky. I know everyone always complains about the Purtell for this reason, but I can't get over the different sizes of Konetchy's legs and check out his right foot! It's like a peg leg! So weird when you really focus on it. And, hey, you can see part of a base there! So much going on in that shot...

I hadn't noticed that before. Donlin fielding, Reagan, and Schlei fielding are the closest others I could find, showing most of their socks but not their shoes. Only a few others show part of their socks, including Tinker hands on knees.

I don't think they look bad. Konetchey's leg left leg looks bigger because it is closer. It is also sticking out past the other leg. Maybe the artists attempt at 3d isn't the best but you also can't see the entire player. I think that makes it look more awkward.

I'm imaging Purtell to being doing a lunge.

Purtell's career was enhanced by his uncanny ability to field ground balls in 6 inch tall grass. I believe there was a prolonged strike by the Lawnmower's Union in Chicago in 1909.

Konetchey's pose is similar to Purtell's but rotated 90 degrees. His left leg is forward (hence larger) with the knee bent. He may be trying unsuccessfully to keep his right foot on the bag with toes pointed backward.

I think it's time to officially change this Konetchy pose from "Glove at Ground Level" to ............ "Safe at First."
