Default how could i have possibly won this?

Posted By: david poses

bidding was extremely low with 30 minutes remaining on this item and, having not bought anything in a while, i decided to bid. i don't like non-paypal auctions, and this guy didn't have 100% feedback, so i bid a max of $6.00 and figured if i lost, no big deal and if i won, great. the back of the card scan is clearly black and white, but i have a lot of experience with scanners and it looked like the guy just didn't set the scanner settings properly (i think the back scanned in b/w, not that the card is fake and the back is xeroxed- nobody is that stupid- i emailed the seller- and i was right). nevertheless, i stopped buying t206s for a while because the prices seemed to be creeping up too much, but i got this for $2.26. how could this have possibly happened?

EDITED TO ADD: i don't care about professional grading, so i didn't factor the cost of sending it to sgc, etc.

Not that great a deal, despite the low cost. With the paperloss on the back, card would likely grade an SGC 10, so 2.26+$5 for shipping+$8 for grading = about $15, sounds about right for an SGC 10. Thats my cynical grading response.

As far as buying a nice looking t206 card, you got a solid deal

Though you may not care, I actually think that card would grade out at a 30 if sent to sgc. Very minor paperloss - Ive got cards with nice fronts, no wrinkles/creases and more paperloss that received a 30. Good deal IMO.

You got lucky because of the badly scanned back. When I looked at this listing I quickly rejected this because of the scanner and the paper loss. So you got yourself a pretty good deal.

Priced properly. At least from what we can detect. Nice front though.

to everyone who thinks the card (at $2.26) is properly priced, do you have any cards to sell? i am interested in all of your t206 cards in similar condition. will happily shell out $2.26 for them. i'll even go up to $2.50.

David,

I am sure you are including me with everyone in your response, but I was suggesting $15 would be appropriate when all costs are involved. Yes, if you bought a graded SGC 10 at a card show for $2.26, I would say it was a great deal.

As far as this grading a 30, I would respectfully disagree. If the front were EX or higher maybe it could grade a 30, but the front is no better than vg/ex and my experience would warrant a 10, perhaps a 20 on a good day. I would like to see examples of vg/ex front with decent paper loss on the back that graded a 30.

At $2.26 it is a steal. At the true cost of $7.25 it is a great deal. No reason to factor in the grading cost if there are no intentions of getting it graded.

Why is everyone assuming David wants to get a card like this one graded? 10, 30, 20-- who cares? He got a great deal!

umm, be careful, i have seen fakes that look great, and up close you can see the difference, namely black piedmont backs...but good luck, hope it's real.

One of the only ways to get a great deal on ebay nowadays is from sellers having bad scans in thier auctions. Its not like it was 6-7 years ago where you could always get lucky with something at a cheap price.

Is it just me or does the font of the name and team designation look a little too dark and bold to be real?

Hi Dan,
I would love to get a card in this condition for that price. Generally, if you look at the posts on this board, and at the completed ebay auctions, you would be lucky to find a card in this condition for under 20 bucks.

During the past year I have purchased about 100 ungraded T206's that would grade SGC20, 30, or 40, and I have lost many auctions for similar condition cards that sold in the $25-$30 range. It seem that there is a greater demand for the lower condition cards, and they seem to be selling for $5-$10 more than they were going for last year.

Great buy!

Rick

Great, great buy David. It's real and it's a steal. Two bucks. Who would ever imagine. It gives me faith that there are still real bargins to be had, but I think Dave is right - more with bad scans and inexperienced sellers. Finding something tucked away unnoticed in a far corner of ebay is a thing of the past.

Good for you!

Joann

No, it is a great deal. I would buy them all day long in this condition at double that price for anyone who wants to sell. I have purchased from this seller before. Slow shipper (took 3 weeks after payment was received) but cards were securely packaged.

Rob, I'll but every raw t206 in that condition or worse for $2.26. Hell, I'd buy them all at a price that included shipping tacked onto each cards. You can't touch a group of t206s in that condition for under $15 per card. Groups that are heavily creased with paper loss and chunks missing will sell for $10 or more per card.
