Now here is an insult to the intelligence of every true and honest collector

It looks like a nice enough card, but truly it doesn't look any different than half a dozen PSA 8's I've seen. Collector's egos about being tops on the PSA Registry drive these insane prices. It's not really about the card.

Maybe the submitter knows Dmitri Young?

Are 10's supposed to have multiple print spots on the front (or is it Joe's Twit pic)?

It also has a slight diamond cut to it. Look at the black outline around the pictures. It’s closer to the border of the card on the lower left side than it is on the upper left. The upper right section is closer to the border than the bottom right. And along the bottom, the right side is closer to the edge than the left side. None of this is drastic, mind you, but come on, it's graded as a 10!! Shouldn't it be perfectly centered and balanced??

Default Looks like an 8 from scan to me

The corner above the Mets does not look anywhere near a 10 to me. Could be the scan. Centering does not need to be perfect in order to be a 10. Beautiful card does not look like a 10 to me from the scan though.

Yes, diamond cut indeed. No way is that a 10.

Never get cheated!

i don't think is the scan Glyn,
i think it was a flared corner fixed with some minor trimming judging by
the tiny paper loss hand dirt like look,,, but it does have nice eye appeal,

David, in the OP i spoke of the questionable upper edge and the not so sharp
left edge,, i think the outline you provided shows just that!

I realize registry bragging rights make people with lots of money do crazy things, but $400K for a Nolan Ryan rookie card? That is just insane, considering the Wagner T206 at this year's REA auction sold for $402,900 and the Baltimore News Ruth sold for $450,300.

I guess for some, when money ain't a thing, they have every other card and so gotta pick up something. I mean, Jagger got so much tail he eventually had to bang David Bowie just to do something.

Now that comment made me laugh. I am afraid to consider what that says about me

This is a perfect example of why you should always buy the card, and not the holder. When it comes to older cards, most cards that would grade high, have already been graded. To have a 10 " suddenly show up " is unlikely. Cards that grade 6's, 7's, and 8's are an every day occurance for the grading companies. 9's and 10's just do not happen in older issues of cards. The grading of this " PSA 10 " is nothing to be proud of for Orlando. It is embarassing to his company and the professional grading companies as a whole.

+1. Especially when you consider how ridiculously tough it is to get a high grade on the '53-'55 Dormand postcards. I have seen really, really sweet ones get tagged with a "5."

Best,

Larry

That card looks trimmed to me from the two O's in rookies all the way to the right.

The Ryan market seems to be real strong. I saw the PSA 9 in Memory Lane is at $17,855 with 2 days left, which I thought was much higher than other sales of the card.

Especially for a 9 with pretty poor left-right centering. There are better cards in 8 holders. That said, a prior 9, I believe also at that same AH, went for 15k last year. That AH seems to always shatter price records, or cement its own...

Here's a better scan of the 10. It was sitting funny in that first one.
