are the portraits of mathewson,cy young and walter johnson more difficult then other t206's?especially in the case of young ,i see far fewer portraits of these players compared to their other poses which are very plentiful.

thanks,
scott

Not in the case of numbers anyway. I do think that they are most difficult because people collect them more. Portrait collects will hold onto those just because they are big names. Plus, I like the portrait much more than the other cards so I would be more likely to hold to the cards than the others.

I just sold a Johnson portrait dup that I had last week - where were you?

And just picked up my first young port.

In my view, the Johnson and Matty portraits are definitely tougher than their other poses. Regarding Young, the pitching (bare hand) seems to be the toughest, at least from my experience.

I have no empirical evidence to support this, but it always seemed like the pitching bare hand young was the most plentiful to me.

Of the portraits I have found Young to be the most difficult to obtain in VG or better.

I would say any of the 150 series cards or portraits seem to be a bit tougher than their action pose cards. I would agree Young is the most difficult of the 3 I would say, but nice Matty’s and Johnson’s are close behind. I would also agree that portrait cards are more collected in the set and I’m sure that adds to the lack of supply on these cards.

...that the printer left his thumb on the top of the card as the blue ink was being added.

High grade Matty portraits are almost never publically offered.

....is forever off the market. (If someone keeps mentioning it, I'll keep posting it -- it is, after all, my most favorite card.)

T206, that is a beautiful Mathewson...that is one that I would put proudly w/ my once many portraits !

Though I have narrowed them down,I still have all of my favorites. The Tinker portrait, though not mentioned in this group is very tough in hi-grade.

I had an sgc 84 Young port, had maybe 20 Johnsons over many years(easiest),never over a psa5 and few Mathewsons.I think that more people hold onto the Mathewsons
as the background look is tantalizing.

The Evers portrait and the red Chance are pretty tough!

They give the t206 set the vintage distinction they will hold many to interest, some of the action photos do nothing as they looked more cartoonish to early collectors as the caramels once did.

Dan

that Evers nickname was "the crab"!

Tinker has a "crab head".

I'll scan some Tinker portraits once I figure out how to do it.....I have some doosies.
