Default Honus Wagner Autographed Who's Who?

Posted By: Russ Bright

Hey everyone, I posted this on the main board, and hopefully I can get some help in the VALUE department, Wagner plus Traynor and a few other autographs - I want it insured and have NO IDEA what it's worth -

SO I finally have MY pickup of the century - 1935 Who's Who in Baseball - for anyone who hasn't seen one - i have included scans - it's history, writeups of every player on a specific team, in this case for 1935 - so there are pages on Ruth, Gehrig, Walter Johnson and Honus Wagner, and MANY MANY more - 112 pages...

Oh yeah, did I mention it was autographed by Honus Wagner?

I had a thread about this about a month ago when I won it - and wondering about the authenticity - the auction I won it from never mentioned, but it had been Authenticated by James Spense (PSA/DNA) - and the Wagner autograph has been graded a 9-10

I severely underpaid I know, and STILL have no idea what it's worth - anyone with something comprable and a good idea of value please e-mail me offlist - thanks!

Russ

Russ,

Maybe others will disagree but I would say value is around the $1000-$1200 range. Recently, I purchased a Wagner signed letter and envelope combo that was originally sold in his "estate" sale from Carnagie, PA years ago. I paid $700 for it and then another $100 for authentication.

I don't know, but Jon's estimation sounds fair, perhaps a bit high. A mint PSA holdered cut would probably sell for a few hundred or more. I once sold a Pie Traynor signed index card for over $100. Also, all your signatures are vintage, which increases the value. A Pie Traynor autograph from 1935 is worth more than one twenty years later in ball point. Obviously, that yours came with the PSA/DNA LOA save you some money on authentication fees.

It is worth about $1000. If might go for more in a bigger auction and probably less on ebay but that is a good estimate of the market value.

Thanks for all the input so far - a follow up question, then - does anyone HAVE a copy of the auction catalog from when this was auctioned originally? Slater's Provenance Auction ending June 19th 2003? I found a couple copies of the catalog online for sale, but if anyone had one i thought it would be a cool companion piece OR just nice to know more about where it came from.

thanks again!

Russ

p.s. Alan, Ambrosia has been one of my favorite bands for close to 15 years (since i discovered them) I actually got to meet all the members before David pack left on a recent tour - killer show... lol...

Nice book.

I have a copy of the 1935 Who's Who dust jacket, which I'll try and remember to post tonight
