Default Three Finger Brown B-Day

I saw that Brown was born on this date in 1876. I lifted the two images from the "Can't Have Too Many Cards " blog. I had never actually seen the "Three Fingers"

Bet with those twisted, missing and stubby digits, old Mordecai's pitches would be tough to hit.

I read today that he had an awesome-plus curve and that his sinker "acted the a bizzare knuckleball"

The article also states that Brown kept the corn shucker that destroyed his hand as a seven year old. He stored it in his garage until he died, more than happy to drag it out and show the curious folk. I wonder what ever became of that piece of "memorabilia"?

I do notice that except for the two pictures that I used in the first post, they did an excellent job of concealing his mangled mitt. Either by avoiding it all together or having him pose with a baseball, the photographers were able to pull it off a la Radar on M*A*S*H*.

Mordecai ....... Three Finger ...... Miner ...... Brown.....

Full name: Mordecai Peter Centennial Brown.

I've always wondered how many other people born in 1876 also had that as part of their name ??

I've always appreciated the chance to see some really tough ones from Jeff's collection--wonderful cards! The black and white, photographic images somehow seem much more appropriate to me for the era. I thought someone might post an example of the only 3-Finger I own, 1907 Dietsche Cubs (PSA Ex+), which was tough enough for me (and brings back the long-lost Cubs glory days). Guess I'll have to get a scanner when times aren't so damn tight for the wife and I financially, as they are right now (she lost a $150,000/yr. job 2 and a half years ago, and thanks to our impossibly far right Michigan Supreme Court, rendering premises liability non-existenct here, my law practice is bringing in less than half what it was).

Best to all of you guys,

Larry

Not really a card, but a cool (and cheap) flea market find from a few weeks ago.
