There are reprints, and, in fact, I own one of the reprints. A large original real photo version in nice shape would be worth minimally a few hundred dollars. The price would of course be dependant on the whims of bidders, but, as you know, there are some significant players on the team. In the genre of baseball photos, original panoramas of top teams (whether the 1920 Phila A's or 1949 Elite Giants) are high end, both in desirability and price. They were intended as grand display pieces. For almost all Pre WWI original real photo panoramas, only a few of each (at maximum) is known to exist ... So if your neighbor owns an original example, he has a special and rare item.

is there an easy way to tell a reprint from an original? it's professionally framed so i can't examine the backing at all, but that had occurred to me. it looks VERY clean with only a few surface wrinkles. its sepia toned as well

I've always wondered about the concept of "original" photos. If the negative survives, is there any detectable difference between a vintage print and a modern print?

My Elite Giants reprint is not a real photo, but a litho with a dot pattern. Also, it has abosutely no toning.

To answer Paul's question, one can tell the difference between a vintage photo and the modern version made from the original negative. In many cases, the modern version would be obvious to the non-photo collector as it simply looks too bright and new. In other cases, one would look at the paper, stamping, aging, etc to determine age .... Also, most years later real photo reprints are not made from original negatives, and the images will be of noticably lesser quality.
