Default Show off your Brothers Poison!

Posted By: Jason L

I do not own any Paul or Lloyd Waner cards, but I hope to some day add one or two of each, as my cousins played with them back in "the day" - see photo linked below of the Handley brothers and the Waner brothers in Pirates spring training.

Please share scans of your Waner cards - I need to create a wantlist!
Thanks!

Jason L

Thanks Steve. I may have gotten those from you.

Thanks Jason. BTW what is the last card?

Just noticed that no one posted a 33 Goudey. Here's Lloyd:

the dreaded M.Brown, Cubs on shirt...I dropped the ball on the one that went for like $150 on Ebay last week....and while I am not in a hurry, I would like to get this team set finished...but I can't pay the $400+ that everyone seems to want for it in the Ebay stores!

Eventually, it will be mine!!!

Every time you post a card scan, I recall the famous Terrell Owens sound byte....

Is that picture at the Pologrounds a polaroid snapshot? Great setting.

I don't think I have any cards that aren't posted already, but I do have my Paul Waner game used bat.

Scott,

I love that Polo Grounds snapshot you posted. There seems to be quite a few deckle-edged snapshots floating around eBay these days, all from about the same era (circa 1938-40). I think I've seen at least a hundred of them, and almost all are from the National League. Many of the them are signed. I'm curious if they all come from the same source ...

In 1936 my dad was a reporter for the Pittsburgh Sun telegraph, assigned to cover spring training. Among his personal candids:

Paul, with Tommy Padden and Arky Vaughn

No Lloyd, unhappily, but a distant shot of Honus:

Jason:

In 1937 my Dad married, which put an end to his spring vacations. But the name Jeep Handley is very familiar to me, since, although he played when I was very young, I was an early radio fan. I can still hear Rosey Rowswell's scratchy "Handley gets it, and over to first in time for the putout." (No, my memory's not that good -- Rosey used the same formula for everybody ... "Rojek gets it..." "Gustine gets it ..." etc.)

Wish I could help more.

Bob
