Just arrived home from a small, local auction that had cards and sports memorabilia. Picked these five cards up for $30 total.

Won the Cobb on Wednesday night, and won the Murphy last night. It's my 2nd Cobb and I believe it puts me at 17 or 18 T206's.

Hey Quan,
You busted out both the PSA and SGC cards? I'm assuming then your just keeping them raw as opposed to going with GAI forces?

for putting me on to this though my research has come up empty so far as to whether he is my Jim Byrnes. Thanks Bob C. for the listing.

Thanks to Matt and Turner. This neat little (2" by 3") photo is identified on the back with "Barrick G." Otherwise unidentifiable as to era, team etc. Judging from the catcher's gear does anyone have an idea on the period? Google came up with nothing.

Hey Steve,

Bresnahan started wearing similar shin guards in 1907. Red Dooin was using smaller shin guards inside his sox even earlier. Dooin ran into Bresnahan while wearing his shin guards, which gave Bresnahan the idea that he wanted some protection as well.

I'd guess the photo is 1907-1915 era.

Patrick

Steve: Lots of Davids here but I assume you are referring to my post on the First December Pickup Thread following your posting of that neat A's postcard. The link I cited along with a cryptic Q.E.D. strongly suggests that your Obak Byrnes is the same west coast boy who played for Philadelphia in 1906.

...just a little from my goal. I'm sure every member here has atleast once. Just had to pull the trigger on this one. Only 3 graded & this being the highest (for now). Nice pickups everyone.

It was indeed you I was referring to who put me on to the Byrnes Tacoma card. That Vintage Cardboard link clinches it. Many thanks.

It's not a Barney Dreyfuss, but at least it's a step in the right direction.

For those of you looking for cards of Southworth as a manager, as far as I can tell, this card and his 1947 Tip Top are the only options -- plus that amazing 1930 team issue of Southworth as a minor league manager that was posted a few days ago.

Randall,

That is one of the HOFers that rarely appear (and on my list I might add).

Matthew,

What is the card of Tony Freitas? Despite its condition, I think it's a great card ...
