Default T206 Doyle (N.Y. Nat'l): Where is it?

Posted By: Scot Reader

I have been following T206 developments since late 2003 and have seen a few Wagners and even a couple of Cobbs w/Cobb back trade hands but have not yet seen the Doyle variation offered. I find this a little odd; I would think that the big price run-up in T206 would produce at least one willing seller. Moreover, except for Steve Soloway, none of the top guys on the PSA Set Registry seem to have a copy so it would almost surely command a fortune in any condition.

Questions:

When was Doyle (N.Y. Nat'l) last offered publicly?

Anybody know of any private sales since then?

Any information on when we might see another public offering?

Guesses on current market for, say, a PSA 3?

I believe a board member has two of them (or at least 1). Maybe he would care to elaborate!

I seem to recall one was offered in the last couple of years, either REA or Mastro.

Recent T206 Joe Doyle, N.Y. Nat'l. sales:

08-26-2000 Ron Oser PSA 2 - $178,598

I can recall 4 examples but don't remember if any others exist.

Great observation, Scot.
I've noticed that it is even difficult to get what Barry S. calls the
poor man's Doyle, especially in 3+ shape.

all the best,

Barry

Please refresh my memory- what did I call the poor man's Doyle? There are so few transactions because there are so few known. It is a genuinely rare card. I think Fritsch has two and maybe there are six known. It's interesting how the price dropped from the first sale to the second. It always depends upon who is bidding.

Barry,
just the regular ole NY hands above head.

even that one is pretty scarce on ebay,etc.---and has gotten
relatively expensive for being a regular ole "common"

....for some reason, i remembered how you described it so aptly,
probably because that's the only one I will ever have.

all the best,

Barry

You are correct. There was that Doyle that sold for too much and I explained that the reason was it resembled the rare card. Now I remember.

Rob,
The Doyle variation is only known with the Piedmont 350 back.

There was one that was briefly available privately at an astronomical price earlier this year. The owner quickly decided not to sell after offering it briefly.
