Anybody who cares about the breaking of the color barrier by Jackie Robinson or who covets a Satchell Paige baseball card or who is interested in either vintage baseball beyond the confines of the big leagues or pre-Civil Rights America would do well to read this article that Brian has posted. It is an important story and a terrific read.

Yes, a great read. As to his prowess, I suppose Mugsy's comment say it all.

Wow what a crazy story, I played high school basketball against Peter Gorton, his team beat ours in the regionals and went to the State. I had never heard of Donaldson until now what a story.

This is a great article. I have been looking to contact you (familytoad) via PM for a while as a fellow collector in Washington state.

Although unrelated to the article, I have been working on a history of Kittitas County, Washington baseball for a few years. The unique thing about the teams in Kittitas County, especially Roslyn, is they were integrated well before the color barrier was broken (except the short-lived Western International League 1921-23). The first teams in Roslyn took the field in 1910, and continued until the late 30's. After reading this I'd love to send you a rough copy to spark your interest in rural Washington baseball, and the controversy surrounding integration.

Thank you for the great story, Ty

Default TY

Ty (pariah)
I'm all ears
You can write to me via email
{Familytoad at comcast dot net}

I have occasional business in Ellensburg (more in Kennewick or Yakima but occasionally Eburg) so maybe we can meet up this summer.

History is the real reason I collect baseball cards...and I'm pretty certain that dozens of others here on this board feel the same. I would enjoy discussion on Kittitas baseball!!!

Default I use him all the time in my classic fantasy baseball league

John Donaldson is great, not just as a pitcher but also as a very good hitter...I can't even count how many times he has homered as a pinch hitter for me on my teams..I would rank him in the top 10 left handed pitchers of all time

here is the fantasy classic baseball league web site
