For those who may not know; William Patrick (W.P.) Kinsella was the author of the novel "Shoeless Joe", which was adapted into the movie "Field of Dreams".

Making J.D. Salinger a character in the book was incredibly brilliant.

Very sad. I've been reading his novels and short stories for years and always enjoyed his work.

Just now saw this, can't believe our local paper can run a "special" obituary each day for some Eastern European opera star or a cast member of some movie from the 50's and missed this one, a great writer. Read Shoeless Joe, it is far superior to the movie Field of Dreams. I can't believe anyone here on the vintage card board hasn't read Iowa Baseball Confederacy, that is a great read with many 1910ish MLB players and coaches involved.
RIP Mr. Kinsella.
