Default Why is the Smoky Joe Wood M116 so in demand....

Posted By: mark t

There are 8 examples -- 1 graded psa 5, 2 graded psa 6, 3 graded psa 7, 1 graded psa 8, 1 graded psa 9. I have a m116 Heinie Beckendorf with a total population of 3 and i bought it for $35. I know Wood was a great player but he is not in the Hall of Fame? I guess its the look of the card that makes it worth what its worth. If i'm asking dumb questions please forgive me, i am just learning about vintage cards and it seems there is plenty of baseball fans out there that are very knowledgeable, thanks.

p.s. Could these cards this guy is selling be proofs? He claims they are store displays but looks more like what proofs would resemble. or they could be fakes.

Wood is one of the toughest cards in the set to find. He also has a something of a cult following. In the 80s, he was a popular card to buy because many believed that he was going to be inducted into the HOF.

Pop reports are not a good indicator of rarity since the rarities and HOFers get slabbed much more often than common cards.

It's a 300 series card that doesn't come up that often. There aren't enough of them to satisfy the demand. It's Wood's best card imo and he should be in the HOF.

I am just laying in wait for the next one to come around and I pray it is a vg condition one so all the Registry freaks will leave it alone. That's the trouble with collecting this set, although the cards are very tough (many), the distribution has caused the remaining cards to be in high condition and so when you spot a Criss or Davidson or Perring or other tough back card you need, it's likely to be in a PSA 8 or 9 holder.

Brian, are you off your meds again?
PS-The water/lemon juice/syrup/cayenne pepper thing isn't working, but it goes great with pizza and pork rinds.

I wonder what my fellow workers think when all of the sudden I start lauging out loud at my desk? nice one....btw, hot pork rinds rock.....

and back to topic.....Smokey has a sort of cult following and all of his cards demand a premium...the M116 more than most others relative to other cards in the particular series....

Wood's Cracker Jack card is also kinda similar to the M116. They don't come up too often and when they do the demand is always high.

consume "designer whey" protein as it is time released with no sugars.
as soon as you wake up and right before going to bed. protein+water+sleep=reduced body fat(if your not exercising).
carbs+water=brain cell production and recoverey from resistance training.

come on now Richard.......I know you know this. You know more than all of us.
Even about cards!

this guy knows. He just lost 50 pounds!

I know he lost 50 pounds. He gave them to me. I'm keeping them until he wants them back.

This is Doug asking Brian whether he wants the e93 set or a Porsche. Brian unwisely chose the Porsche.

What does all this have to do with Smokey Joe Wood, you ask? "Not a thing," said the Queen of Hearts.

The card is way overrated and overpriced and all of you should stay away from the next one that's available for sale.
