Default how do i find pics, articles, etc. for an oct. 2, 1937 game against white sox

I have searched hard and i do admit i am a poor web surfer. It is very important to me to find anything i can and some luck i have had. my grandfather William (wild Bill) Miller pitched 1 game in 1937 on oct. 2nd, 1937 for the St. Louis Browns against the white sox. I know it could be close to impossible, but looking for any way to find newspaper articles or game pics from that day. He died when i was 2 on feb. 26, 1982 of lou gerhigs disease. He had to leave the game early, even though he was not that good, due to early effects of the disease. He was an avide fan of the game and my mother says was always keeping score of all games in a little note pad he had. i would appreciate any fingers pointing in a direction that i could try, and my family would be very proud to find this treasure of ours, of one of the greatest days of my grandfathers life. thank u for taking the time regardless of finding anything, God bless

Default A couple of on-line links

.

Here are a couple links to the on-line boxscore, and brief biography of Bill Miller (with picture) per baseball-reference.com:

Not the "hard" memorabilia you are seeking, but it is a meager start.

Good luck on your search.

Call St. Louis newspapers and see if they have a microfilm library dating that far back.

Four bucks will get you the full text of the New Tork Times' coverage of the game:
http://select.nytimes.com/gst/abstra...8BD95F438385F9

A call to the St Louis or Chicago libraries should get you coverage of the game from those local papers -- librarians are almost invariably eager to help out with such search requests, although having the articles retrieved, copied, and mailed to you will typically cost between $5. and $15. per page. It would be a big advantage to you if you know anyone in St Lou or Chicago who could get the material in person for you at no cost.

Might try the St. Louis Browns Historical Society.

Here's the box score....

http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1...020SLA1937.htm

If it were me I'd either 1) go to the St. Louis Public Library with some coins and head for the periodicals on microfilm...

Or, 2) use this link http://www.slpl.org/index.asp and click on the Ask a Librarian link, and you can chat real time... I'd get the name and address of one of them, tell them what I wanted, then mail them a large SASE and a $20 bill, asking that they print out all they can on the game, mail it to you, and keep the change...

Let us know how it goes.
