Default Cy Morgan is really Benny Bowcock

As stated in Old Cardboard's eNews email received today, SABR photo researches have determined that the 1910 E104-1 Nadja, 1911 T208 Cullivan's, and 1911 D339 William's Bakery image of Cy Morgan is not Cy Morgan. Actually the image is Benny Bowcock who only played 14 MLB games in 1903, seven years earlier than the issue of the Morgan card(s). More to the story can be found elsewhere but I thought it would be nice to give Benny his props and post the three incorrectly labeled Morgan's.

Here is my Nadja...

Default Captain Morgan for me

Just so he isn't mercilessly teased, I think Benny should stick with the Cy Morgan moniker.

Default Bris Lord / Sherry Magee

My Bristol Lord card is blank-backed, so I don't know if it's a 1910 NADJA or a Cullivan's Fireside. In any event, I tell myself that I have seen this face before.

Yes....of course, it's the face on the 1909 T206 Sherry Magee card.....albeit a reverse image.

Incidently......both Magee and Lord have the following in common......born a year apart in countryside towns in Pennsylvania.

Started their major league careers in BB in 1905 in Philadelphia.

The "Lord" and "Baker" images were both included in the 1907 Sporting Life NL team composite. Both were correctly identified in the composite as Magee (Philadelphia) and Seymour (New York, but pictured with Cincinnati ca. 1902-03), so I'm still not sure where the mix-up happened. I'm fairly confident that The Sporting Life was the source, however, because the images for the Bender, Davis, Dygert, Mack, "Morgan," Murphy, Oldring and Plank cards were included in the 1907 AL composite.
(Please note, I do not own the cards pictured)

Default Composite Confusion

T. Scott ... You and Mark did a great research job uncovering the Bowcock-Morgan switch and all the other related mis-labeled players prior to Bowcock ending up as Morgan. Your SABR article was very well written and illustrated, it was a mini mystery novel.
