Default Mantle HR ball.... leap of faith?

Found this listing on ebay. Think it is pretty neat if letter tells an accurate story.

Neat story but I can only imagine that a baseball smashing onto the street from one of Micks home run shots is going to suffer more abrasions on the ball than just that darkened spot on the ball. Also that spot wraps around the ball. I don't believe that would happen from hitting the ground. Maybe I'm wrong!

Was thinking the same thing. That dark spot looks more like seeped in shellac or something. An abrasion from contact would not be that big.

Let me get this straight... "this ball remained with owner (now deceased) for over 50 years." Simple math tells that story, yet "the owners son tried to authenticate it with Mantle". Uh, yeah....

He spoke with Jane Russell for an hour without knowing who it was. I could too.

It is a cool story and actually sounds plausible to me. However, I would not pay $900 for it.

I think of all the baseball I have got from players and know that there is no way to prove any of it.
