Is lot 240 a group of 40 cards in overall Vg condition or is it a group of 40 Orville Overall cards? (just a T206 joke, that's all).

This auction seems to have a much different personality than Mastro. Mastro prices shot up in a hurry, where, to me, Lelands still seems to have some bargains with only a little over one day left on many of the desirable auctions. Is there a chance any of these bargains are going to stick or are there going to be a lot of late bids? Seems like money is tight right now.

Edited to correct typos unless otherwise noted.

Leon:
Nice to be back on the Forum.
Thank you for the plug. It is great to be back in New York this week and at Lelands after a month in Puerto Rico. The auction is going great and as always there are a lot of good buys still. We keep our reserves low and the reserves are real (as opposed to some others whose prices shoot up mysteriously right off the bat). Also, we try to do our best on all fronts especially in the area of customer service where we have grown by leaps and bounds. As always our authenticity levels are the best in the business.

If anyone wants to talk to me tomorrow (Thursday) or Friday they can call me in the office (516 409 9700) or email me at jevans@optonline.net. I will be there both days till late. Mike Heffner (my partner and resident genius), Ron Rolleri (our COO), Richard Bond (autographs and jerseys), Chris Porter (cards), Jon Perry (cards), and Bruce Mauro (hockey and Americana) will be there as well.

Comparing our results (so far) to Mastro and Sotheby’s (who I think are the leaders along with us right now in terms of prices), overall we are equal if not better. Actually I am hearing that Sotheby’s was weak overall except for a few great prices on certain pieces.

Regards
Josh Evans

P.S. The movies in Puerto Rico suck so went to the flicks the last three nights. Capote (killer), Good Night and Good Luck (better than the History Channel) and tonight I saw King Kong (blew me away). Bet you didn’t know I was film critic for my college newspaper and ran the Film Society.
By the way, John Lennon over Babe Ruth big time.

I play fair and didnt post on the board that it was
mine .But I tell you this, had you seen it like Lelands did when I presented it . Their response was, "that's
a 5k basketball card"....your eyes would have been
mesmerized like mine was when I bought it.

WIsh you could have seen it.Thanks

Dan K:

Not good
Maybe we can do something about it

In past situations we have cut commissions, give credits towards future auctions, and even try to get the piece back

Or not

I am not familiar with this transaction so I cannot say
But we do investigate each situation and try to make our clients happy
Please email me at jevans@optonline.net

But this is what happens when you run an honest auction
When there are no hidden reserves and you get a square deal

If you want a free catalogue for the next sale email me please
We are a great place to consign

Dan
Good news
I spoke to the winning bidder this morning and was able to get the high bidder to back out on the card
I explained your situation and he was real nice about it
By the way we did give you a $1000 cash advance at the time we took it in from you
Regards
Josh

The card was one fair and square by the bidder. It
was not your fault that the card went low. The
item was written correctly and exclusively.

It (the post)was merely written to let the people
around know what was missed on a card soooooooooo
so nice. I havent spoken with Josh yet, so this
will clarify all intentions of the reply.

Lelands is very professional always and I would
consign again if they would have me. This is one
post reply that could be concieved in a couple
of different ways -my way was only to state
"SEE WHAT YOU"S MISSED OUT ON"!!!....and nothing
more then that. This is why I stated that, "you win
some and you lose some.

Thanks for your follow up concern to the benefit
of your customers.

Again ,the bidder won fair and square and deserves
his prize.

thanks Lelands
Dan Koteles

Josh Evans has certainly gone above and beyond the call of duty to make amends with a consignor, but Dan is man enough to realize that the card was won fair and square so why would the winner feel compelled to return it? I spend hours and hours with spread sheets trying to find something of good value in an auction and if I did and the auction house asked for it back, I think I would choose to keep it. Why not? This is a very unique scenario for sure.

Three good deeds in one situation. The Auction House for making an attempt to get Dan his card back, The buyer for letting the auction house take the card back and Dan for letting the buyer keep his "steal".

This is how everyone in this hobby should roll.

Not to be a cynic but is it possible that a Lelands employee was the high bidder?
