Default s74 silks and GAI

Posted By: steve

I saw a black/white s74 with backing on ebay - graded by SGC. I did not know SGC graded them, so I called SGC, they do grade the silks with backings, but not the colored silks without backings.

Are there any rumors that PSA will eventually grade them? So far, GAI and Beckett are the only two who grade them, although I have never seen a colored silk in a BVG holder - anyone know if BVG grades colored variety without backings? If you had to choose, would you rather have a silk in a GAI or BVG holder? Which of the 2 slabs would have greater value?

Tough cookies to come by, probably never sell these:

I sold a colored silk w/out backing graded by Beckett a few weeks ago. I didn't have it graded personally so I don't know if they still grade them or not.

This is the reason I would like to try to have these slabbed by someone besides GAI - the scan wrinkles are not scan wrinkles - they are the plastic film inside the case slab that cause the appearance of scan wrinkles.

Not real happy of how they look after GAI slabbed them. I think Beckett may do a better job of getting them to stay put without creating wrinkles with plastic film.

I would use Beckett for sure over GAI. I think the market has lost faith in GAI and the sales values with show this. I think Beckett is really making a push into the vintage side and doing a lot of positive things. They have been posting on these boards and been active in answering collectors issues/questions which is a huge plus. I also think they will look alot better in BVG slabs.

SGC is my main grading company but I have been considered sending some of my oversized cards to Beckett to slab, I stopped using GAI a couple years ago for many reasons.

They don't really look that much better in the Beckett slabs as they use the dreaded plastic baggie too. It is still near impossible to get a good scan/pic of them in the holder.
