Default B&L vs Mastro

Posted By: Jay

With B&L and Mastro kicking off their latest auctions at roughly the same time today I thought it would be interesting to compare the per lot realization for each at roughly 4:25 EDT today. Interesting enough, B&L is thus far the winner with a per lot realization of $177.53 vs a Mastro per lot realization of $139.84. Kudos to Leon and Scott for putting together a great auction in a difficult environment.

I guess this is proof of how soft the market has gone on Keyon Dooling 2003 Los Angeles Clippers jerseys.

I prefer to bid with B&L as well, but the difference in price thus far can be attributed to Mastro opening all their lots at either $50 or $100 and B&L having some lots that had opening bids in the thousands.

I was in disbelief as I perused the Mastro offerings.
Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Keep in mind this is Mastro's "Collector" auction. Their monster spring auction will be in April which typically competes head to head with REA.

Even taking that into account, Brian, as far as Mastro's "Collector" auctions go, this one ranks pretty far down on the list (IMO, which admittedly doesn't mean a whole lot.)

To me the auctions are both close in what they have to offer but you would expect a lot more from an auction thats one of the top 2 dogs vs a new auction house.

As for me, I want a couple items from each auction but plan to only bid in the B & L, its just not worth the risk to me that the other might really have serious financial issues (I hope they dont thou).

It is not just Mastro folks. Look at auctions period and the great items are on hold right now. I would not run anything at auction if i felt the value was over 15,000. Everyone i know in the high end antique game has the same opinion that the items of great value are not currently being brought to auction.
