Default Please, what is the difference between T206 scrap, and numerical grade?

I hope some of the experts can help me with this. Why do some T206s only get a grade of A, but a few others get a numerical grade?

I am not an expert but, it seems most collectors feel by definition a scrap is hand cut therefore it can't receive a numerical grade. There might be exceptions but that is why a scrap should only receive an A, from my understanding.

I was going to say 20 before I realized it's not in an SGC holder.

3 or 4 If it's PSA,
Maybe higher if it's someone elses holder.

I am not so sure that is scrap. It isn't hand cut. Can we see the front? I would call it a ghost image on back more than scrap. But the T206 guys will know more...

I think that it's a cylinder transfer, where a previous image is not cleared from the impression cylinder. When the next card is printed, the image remaining in the cylinder transfers (in reverse) onto the card being printed, along with the intended print.

This is just a layman's version. Ron K. or Steve B. could explain it properly. Everything I know about this subject I learned from them.

Default scrap grading....

ok....here's the deal....NO SCRAP CAN GET A NUMERICAL GRADE....

REPEAT...

NO SCRAP CAN HAVE A NUMERICAL GRADE...

EVER!!

if it does have a numerical grade.....it's not scrap...it means it was" factory cut "if it gets a grade....all scrap were hand cut off printer scrap sheets...all scraps must , repeat MUST be graded "A".....

Sean is correct.....about the ghost Becker......one of the few factory cut ghost / errors out there....more "ghosts" are actually "overstrikes" or a "multi pass" by the printer.....the becker is an example of a clear factory cut wet cylinder impression error.....approx. 12 to 13 examples known....Chance, Weimer, Becker, Starr, Gilbert...ect...

Rob.....if your ghost had an "A"....it would put it in the "scrap" category, sometimes actually ADDING more value than a factory cut error, ironically.....but that doesn't hold true in all cases....

Kevin

I am assuming you picked up the "Sweeney".....well....I have been studying this card for a few years....yeas, a few years! I have never owned it, but almost acquired it from the previous 2 owners...

your card is one of the very FEW , very rare cards sgc made a rare mistake on.....I believe your card is actually a scrap and belongs in an "A" holder....it would actually double value of your card...

the card looks short all around ..just maybe trimmed up neatly... it has the next layer/color player next to him as Chris B pointed out...an clear wst transfer on front....the miscut back, ect....its a shame, if Sweeney was missing color in the face/ or a color pass, id say "DEAD RINGER" SCRAP....

but . unfortunately, this may be a "tweener" scrap( a believed scrap, but can't be 100 % confirmed as such)

hope this helps some
